Lord Ganesha Has Arrived!!!!
Hi Friends,
As I wrote in this blog, India is going through season of festivals starting with the Ganesha Chaturthi and I have given the details of the occasion and why we celebrate this festival.
So, over the weekend, Saturday to be precise, we welcomed Lord Ganesha which was booked about 15 days back and it's a family re-union with my sisters, brother and their family all came to our place to celebrate the festival like every year.
Worshipping Idol:
We worship the idol for 5 days with different food items prepared which are favorites of Lord Ganesha as depicted in Indian mythology stories.
Modak (a momo shaped sweet item where in jaggery, coconut and Gram dal used to prepare the sweet item is considered to be the most favorite for Ganesha.
Different laddoos are also considered to his favorite and kids will love the laddoos too, so it's like in the name of Lord Ganesha, we all prepare his favorites and consumed by us.
Like any other years, this year too, we had to undergo lots of traffic when we went to bring Ganesha and as usual, my brother in law held the idol while I drove the car back home from the place where we had booked the idol.
We had already setup the previous day itself with all the decoration, lighting and all the fruits, flowers and other items as required.
So, it was just a formality on Saturday to bring the idol and worship him.
As I said, we will worship the idol for 5 days and every day, One of his favorite food item prepared and it's a festivity mood to all of us which will continue for 5 days and this festival is just the beginning of the season of festivals with Vijayadashami and Diwali to follow and then, we gear up for Christmas and New year.
The festival is also called as Gowri Ganesha festival, where, Gowri is the mother of Lord Ganesha and as we can see above, there is worshiping of Mata Gowri (Mother Gowri) and on the Fifth day, we finally worship the idol and take it out and immerse in water signifying the return of realm of Lord Ganesha to his home by immersing him in water.
It is also believed that, immersing him in water will remove the obstacles as he is known as the remover of obstacles.
There is also saying that, the immersing is to unite him with his mother Ganga (Goddess of Water) and that ends the festival

Ganesha festival is also an opportunity for kids to burn the crackers although Diwali will see more crackers used than Ganesha festival.
While the crackers nowadays are more duplicates and are not effective as those use to be with the ones which are available now are more smoky than light and sound and are more dangerous, so, we just buy the limited crackers in order to avoid the smoke and use more of natural crackers for young kids as much as possible.
Overall, the festival was enjoyable as united all family members and was also an opportunity to share the ups and downs and gave us an opportunity to meet after a gap of months.
While we eagerly wait for Diwali as the next hub to meet with family, we also have Navaratri (9 days of celebration of destroy of Ravana, who believed to kidnap Sita, the wife of Lord Rama) and I will be happy to bring more about that as the Navaratri begins shortly.
Until then, good bye for now and keep blogging.
Thanks and Have a good day :)
