Drug Abuse: The Most Bothering Thing in India

Hi Friends,

Source

India is One of the fast growing in terms of population, urbanization, One of the fastest growing economies and we do have another thing to add to this list of fastest growing i.e. India is also becoming One of the fastest in terms of drug abuse or substance abuse.

Per the census of India in 2017, India's population in urban areas was 34% and is expected to be 40% by year 2030 and this increase in urbanization has led to more and more people moving to cities in search of jobs not just within states, but also moving into other states and that also means increased crime rates and drug abuse.

The improved facilities due to modernization means, people see more and more technologies evolving and money is flowing into the hands of people due to improved earnings in cities and has led to addiction to drugs as the substance is more easily available in cities and such urban people will always be targeted by drug and substance sellers as there is money in people living in cities.

Why people are falling prey to drugs?

Source

Well, there might be multiple reasons for the drugs acquiring and usage.

The easy flow of money and the lavish life and maintaining status from few might pull others to get addicted to drugs.

Increased stress on people due to job pressure or issues with friends and family has also made people to addicted to drugs and alcohol with not just rich but even the poor are getting addicted to forget the stress and this One is One of the major reasons for the drug abuse.

Another major reason which could have led to more drugs addiction is the breaking of nuclear family due to family members moving out of their town/village in search of jobs or for various other reasons and that binding is broken and people might get attracted to drugs by people always looking to lure the other people to get addicted.

It's not a secret anymore that most of the highly reputed schools and colleges are the target of the drug distribution and selling and this is mostly due to some influential people wantedly force the drug/substance into the students by luring them of the fun or enjoyment the drugs brings and students are the most who will be attracted to such luring as the age will be such that, they will be out of the strictness of parents and will be eagerly looking for ways to have fun and drug abusers will take advantage of such freedom of students and this will go on even after they move out of school/college.

Major Drugs Used in India:

Source

India is a native country where, opium, cannabis and Crystal Meth are the major drugs which are produced in India itself and hence, are easily available in India.

Drugs like Cocaine are costlier in India because this is being imported or brought in by drug peddlers from outside India and inspite of the high cost, Cocaine is more consumed by rich families and students who are from rich family and obviously college students will be the high consumers of Cocaine.

The first category of of drugs mentioned above are also the more consumed Ones with India producing these and hence, will be easily available being grown mostly in states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and North Eastern states like Manipur.

How to reduce the drug abuse?

I used reduce then stop because the growing usage of drugs is like literally not possible to stop it completely as the younger generation are more addicted to this and they won't come out of this easily.

India has many addiction treatment centers across states and they are striving to rehabilitate the drug addicts, so, it's just that, people should be ready to go into such centers to get rid of addiction although it won't be that easy for the people who are addicted.
