You need not go alone | Freewrite prompt

Go it alone.
Do it alone.
Be your own hero.
Just solve the problem and move on.
Be strong. You've got this.

How many messages does society give us
to think that we need to be self-reliant,
self-sufficient,
capable of doing everything on our own?

Sure, there's a time and place for stepping up,
for taking responsibility,
for realising that we are "able to respond"
to what life throws at us, but

no man is an island

likewise

no woman is an island either.

We are designed to be interconnected.

We thrive by being in relationship
in community,
by communing--literally--
about the problems we face
so rather than facing our issues alone
rather than going it alone
we can face the challenges of life
together,
with others,
with our tribe.

If you've been indoctrinated into this thinking
that it's better to go alone,
to do the thing,
solve the problem
all on your own
then, my friend,
I want to invite you into considering
the very nature of being human.

Human beings are designed to be interdependent,
not independent,
not islands,
not isolated,
interdependent;
you bring your skills,
I'll bring mine
and together we can tackle almost anything
that comes our way.

Feel too big for just the two of us?
Well, then bring your brother, for he has different skills.
I'll bring my sister, for she has other skills.
And if needed we can call on our cousins,
our aunts, our uncles,
our neighbours,
and any or all of our dear friends.

For there is no need to go alone,
to face the world alone
because life works better
when we do it together.
