Why I let my intuition take me for bushwalks.

avatar

Near our home here in Brisbane we have this beautiful big chunk of bush. My partner and I walk or run in there most days. After living here for almost four years now I know many of them trails really, really well.

Since I (re)started marathon training at the beginning of the year I've been getting into the bush, on my own, far more often again.

I love it.

I grew up living close to or surrounded by the Australian bush for much of my childhood. To me the bush feels safe and good, wonderful even. And being alone in bush I know (during daylight hours at least) feels very nourishing.

Even when I unexpectedly come across a goanna that's almost as long as I am tall 😂

Brad, my darling partner who has run in this local area for more than 20 years, tells me that he rarely sees goannas (also known as 'lace monitors'). That makes me feel even more lucky when I do see them.

Today, my marathon training called for a fast walk. Since I could walk anywhere I wanted (in the time I had between the rain showers and my next workshop) I opted to head into my beloved bush.

And I did as I often do: I let my intuition tell me where to go.

I walked down our driveway and I notice where I get pulled. When I get to the first split in the trail, I notice where my body wants to go. When I get to the next junction and I thought I would go left but my immediate sense is to go right, I trust that sense.

I've been letting my intuition lead me through life to greater and greater degrees since I was 17.

Just in case it's not clear, that was not yesterday 😂 So I've had a lot of practise. And when I feel safe then I find it quite easy to follow the seemingly illogical things my body wisdom yelled me to do.

Like go down this particular set of trails this morning I had no mental plan to visit. Following this invisible but strong pull meant I found myself with a metre or two of this beauty.

And who, despite being more than strong and able enough to do serious damage to me, crashed through the bush and scampered up this tree the moment it heard (felt? smelled?) me coming. I paused my watch (of course 😂) and said "hello". I took a bunch of photos without getting too close. I moved slowly and predicably so I didn't scare it (or me 😅). And then I said "goodbye", carrying on with my walk along this skinny little track grateful that my intuition brought me to such a beautiful creature that my mind would never have found on its own.

To my friendly OCD moderators:

I know this group is for specialises content that doesn't nicely fit into any other group. As I thought about what I wanted to say in today's post I realised that none of my existing communities felt like a good match for this writing on intuition.

Do you know a good, established community that these sorts of musings would fit into? Maybe there's a brilliant community that I'm not aware of where this kind of content is welcomed. If so, I'd love to know! Thank you ☺️

All photos of said beauty were taken by me on my Google Pixel 2XL phone.

Wow that it bigger than any of the ones I have ever seen in there. Great colours and look at those claws gripping the tree. We will have to follow your intuition more often on our afternoon walks too.

I reckon it was a good 5 ft long. Pretty incredible, really.

Great colours and look at those claws gripping the tree.

Thank you! Very lucky with the location and timing regarding the light.

We will have to follow your intuition more often on our afternoon walks too.

I'd love that 🙏

Thats my totem, Goanna. It is a beast of an animal can hunt on land, in water and from the air pouncing from trees. Fortunately for us it is used to humans and doesn't mind us about. Imagine if these beasts turned on us!

I would love to watch them hunt. That would be amazing and probably a little sad for me as I am a softy 😊 Yes, as I appreciate their massive claws that hold them onto these trees I am immensely grateful they have shown zero desire to get close to me 😂

That is understandable if you've never seen one before. I was taught as a child that this reptile was safe for me as long as I gave it space. If we went for a bushwalk together, Arashthr, I would walk with you and help you feel safe.

To be fair, I also feel the same way when people share photos of other animals from their country that I don't know. Sometimes animals look scary and dangerous to me and they are okay. I would be terrified if I saw a black bear in North America but other friends of mine seem to be okay with seeing them!

Iran has many reptiles as well. But mostly they are in small sizes. Even bigger ones are much smaller than this :D :)) And of course I am scared of those little ones too. :)))

Holy heaven! That thing would have scared me for a lifetime. You don't see such creatures here, unless you go to the zoo.

And yes, there's a community for everything and I would suggest Daily Blog 😇

Haha. If you were with me @erikah, I would have held your hand or given you a big hug (after you ran away from it I guess 😂) to help you calm down and feel safe again.

I swear, they're really quite afraid of humans. So yes, they could hurt us but I've never heard of someone being attacked by a goanna, ever. And... luckily, it's only on the screen for you, hey? !LOL

Ah! Daily Blog. Got it. I'll check it out. Thank you !LUV 😍

I am amazed by that Goanna, but I am more drawn to the fact you live by the bush. It's like a dream for me. Have you tried doing picnics in there? Well, that might be dangerous.

Intuition really is a mysterious magical thing. I also try to listen to it more often because I always catch myself thinking "I wish I listened to myself".

Have fun and good luck on your trainings! Also, be careful always.

We are very lucky indeed to live this close to bush, @cloflo 🙏

We haven't done any picnics in there but we totally could. Good idea! What do you think @new.things? Picnic date? 😊

The biggest danger would be if we picked a mountain bike trail to sit down on; we'd get run into by a human on a bike. That would be a far bigger danger than any of the animals in there I think.

Intuition really is a mysterious magical thing. I also try to listen to it more often because I always catch myself thinking "I wish I listened to myself".

It is indeed? Sounds like it's a good time for you to (gently) try listening to yourself a little more often! 🙃

Thanks for the luck with training. I shall continue to be careful, I promise 🤗

That giant bearded dragon two weeks ago and now this?! Wow! You guys really have some incredible wildlife over there. What´s gonna be next? A Comodo dragon? :D I´m a huge fan of reptiles and these encounters would be absolutely priceless for me. Jealous!

Ah, yes. We are incredibly lucky here in Australia and in particular where we live. We have a lot of reptiles in Aus, that's for sure.

I would love to see a Komodo Dragon! Though I don't think I'll be getting anywhere near as close to one of them as I do with Goannas! They're huge 😱 But I think they would be awesome to see 🙏

No idea what's going to be next. I guess you'll just have to wait and see 😉

Thanks for the TIPU. !LUV
