Smartphone Expenses for the Family

We always talked about lifestyle inflation but never talk about how technology advancement is making us spend our money a lot. Like we have a family of 5, my parents, my wife and a kiddo. So everyone in the family uses the smartphone now, that means I have to buy 4 smartphones every 3 years. 3 years only if the mobile runs for his life, sometimes I have to buy in 1 or 2 years too since the phone became dead.

This is the just the smartphone expense and then there is a monthly cost associated with the smartphone in the form of recharged which makes it really expensive. This is different than the lifestyle expenses because though we are buying the smartphones, we always try to buy something of a mid range and do not go with the hi-fi ones. The expense might not be huge to be honest but again this small expenses do make it big when we add them. They tend too multiply one after other. Like my monthly mobile and broadband bill is around $25, this is because internet is quite cheap here at the moment. Once it becomes expensive, I can see how the expense will shoot up.

But still this expense wouldn't have occurred 10 years back when we all were using just a normal phones whose life life would be like 5 years minimum. Now we have to change the phone at minimum 3 years if not less. Just like these we have so many expenses which almost becomes multiple times if you have multiple members in your house and you cannot control it. You have to spend otherwise you will become miserly in their eyes.

So yeah with the technological advancement we are seeing our expenses also becoming more and thus it will never gonna stop in near future I guess. What's your story behind the smartphone expenses?
