The Power of 3s
Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about this nice and effective work day methodology I learned about in the last year!
The Power of 3s
I've been writing a lot about work lately.. lol sorry if this is a little boring for the folks in the work community :D
I've been pretty busy with so many things at work that it's certainly difficult to do things in the real world. I have been trying to make incremental changes though to improve how I do things and I think it's largely been pretty successful.
I'm not perfect at making these types of changes, there are a lot of things that I'm not able to do but I certainly do try. I have started to adopt a mindset that I saw sometime last year, I forget specifically when, but it has been pretty helpful!
What I've been trying to do is 3, 3, 3. What this means, at least how I've interpreted it, is being able to accomplish 3 smaller tasks during the day, make sure that I follow up with at least 3 people that I have pending things for and spending 3 hours doing the more time-intensive tasks. This method doesn't always work out perfectly but I've been able to really make some positive changes with this stuff and it's certainly made me more productive overall!
Where it's really helped me is doing the 3 smaller tasks during a day. When you've got something that's really big and weighing you down on your shoulders, it can certainly be difficult to focus on other things but that's also an important thing to do! If you are able to get a few other things done, you can more easily focus on the bigger thing that you are working on because there is less stress overall on getting the other stuff accomplished.
For example, I have been off-the-wall busy with my recent project that went live and working with the team to document all kinds of things, change and fix things left and right and put out the little fires that crop up. This is definitely the "3 hour intensive task" per day in that 3,3,3 break down. With that though, one of the things that I have to make sure is that I don't ignore or forget to do the other things that I have to get done too! This is where I've gotten pretty stressed out, knowing that all my time and attention is focused on this one thing but I do have a few other things I am also juggling so it's been quite a game of juggling.
With the methodology that I've been using, I'm able to do those 3 tasks and also follow up with 3 different people which is pretty much standard for me. I've got dozens of people that I connect with in any given day, so it's easy to follow up with 3 people but the important thing for me is that it has to be 3 people that are not the direct workers of the big project! That has proved advantageous, because when you get ahead of things like that, it prevents a bigger issue from cropping up later on and with how much of an issue I've been dealing with, anything I can do to prevent future issues is best lol.
This style of taking care of work in any given day has been a great and positive change for me and I think it will help enable me to grow into other things as they come along. I don't know what those things are but if you establish good habits out of the gate then you are able to continue those good habits going forward, creating a nice cascading effect into the future. The big tasks become more manageable and you're able to reduce your stress levels which is an important thing for sure.

This sounds like a legitimate strategy and I'm happy that it's going well for you.
It's great to implement stuff like this early in the year so you can test the overall improvements as the months go along.
Have a lovely day:)
Yeah it’s gone pretty well! I think it really comes into play when things are down to the wire.
Thank you for sharing this useful work methodology.
It's very helpful!
I think it's a great strategy to keep one focused on organized throughout the day. The three small tasks can be a good way to build momentum and 3 hours of focusing on one thing can be a great tool for deep work.
Yeah it's really helped me doing it this way. The small tasks being knocked out during the various parts of the day really help you to do the bigger things!
It's an interesting technique. I've never heard of it, I'll have to try it.
The problem is that I'm my own boss and lately I've been taking on more work than I can handle. So I've been a bit overwhelmed these last few weeks. As a result, all my current projects are due yesterday, according to my customers haha.
So I'm forced to do more than 3-3-3. I'd say that per day right now I should be doing 3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3 ^^
Just kidding of course! But I'm in a situation where I have to do an insane amount of work. So right now, my technique is the simple Pomodoro.
It works like a charm for me as long as the people around me understand the technique. Otherwise, it breaks my Pomodoro and it's unbearable.
Yeah this is just a minimum for me - I end up doing like 9 small tasks, follow up with 15 people and do 4 hours of focused work on something lol so it's not completely just 3-3-3 so I know the struggle you're in man!
I know the name pomodoro but not familiar with the structure of the methodology so I'll have to look it up! I hope it's like a delicious Italian tomato :D
This methodology seem like a good one and will be useful for me too
I should give it a try
Thanks for sharing
This is really a great strategy that truly if it can be applied to aspects of our lives, it will help us to succeed
The view of the sunrise and sunset is very beautiful and especially when we are on top of such a place with scenic views, its beauty is enhanced.
