Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share some photos from summers past, and how I ended up reflecting back on them a little bit!

Summertime Compilation

The other day I was talking with someone I work with and they were saying they wanted to take a vacation with their wife. They are turning 50 this year and they want to do something special to commemorate it. They've never been to the area that my wife and I live in, and we had talked about it in the past that they should come up here to see the beauty of it, but also spend some time getting some lunch or something!

I of course love the beaches and things of that nature, but what I really think is absolutely stunning and beautiful are the mountains of the area. We've got some of the coolest mountains in my opinion, because they are accessible and also seasonal. You can hike them in the summer and feel warmth, instead of still being freezing cold if the mountains were over 8,000 foot or something the way other mountains in the world are.

I am certainly biased because I've grown up in this area and spend so much time here, that I definitely feel a better draw here than other places. There are also other beautiful places around that are not necessarily mountains but we were talking about more on the mountains topic. I showed him some pictures of the places that we've been, and some of the pictures that I've included here are ones that I've sent to him to try and sway him to come up here for a visit.

He's living in the southern United States, and has grown up there his whole life, raised his family there and all that. He's never been to the area I live in and it would be great for him to come visit, as it would be nice for me to go visit his home state eventually as well. I was trying to sell him on the idea and we were chatting for quite a while, skipping past what the meeting was originally supposed to be for.

I think this is a good thing about working remotely, and making friends with the people you work with. Yeah it's important that we don't get too attached to some of the people, because you never know who is going to stab you in the back but there are some who feel and appear genuine. My friend here is one of them, and I really wanted to try and help him see the beauty of the area we live in.

He's not completely sure if he's going to come here, or go to the coast. I was showing him another part of the country that is equally beautiful, and is on the coast but it's not mountains like this which they were okay with. I think perhaps people may not appreciate the mountains that we do if you don't live near them, but who knows. I did say that the shorelines in this area are much different than you would think elsewhere because it is ALL rock. The shores of places like Florida, Louisiana, Alabama and others are mostly sad, with very little rock in them. Up here though, they are mostly rock with very little sand. This annoys some people, but is certainly preferential for us!

It was a great little trip down memory lane for me. I occasionally look at these photos and fondly remember the places we were at, the times we were there and things of that nature. I think that's one of the things I enjoy most about taking these pictures, I don't take 10,000 pictures everywhere I go. I take some time to make sure to focus, find the right shot, right angle and all that. There is effort that goes into them and it also means that I tend to remember the place more than I would if it was just a few dozen photos taken all at once and keep walking.

I don't think this year is going to be the year they come up, as they are good at planning but hopefully next year and we can coordinate a meetup for some lunch and hanging out for a bit! If it doesn't end up being the mountains, that's okay with me. It's important to spend time with the people, that's mostly what I care about!

Possibly just my personal bias but I think the mountains beat the coast anytime 😭😭😂

Mich more chance of seeing rate wildlife and plants, plus the airs cleaner up..

I wonder what your friend would choose though.

Yeah I agree with you there! I much prefer the mountains because there are far fewer of them then there is coastline. The beaches are beautiful but nothing beats the mountain for me!

One of the really cool things about the mountains a few years ago, we got to see hummingbirds! I haven't seen one of those since I was a kid it was really cool!
