Springtime Birds

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share some pictures of the local birds and their enjoyment of the wonderful springtime weather!

Springtime Birds

Springtime is definitely the time of awakening and rebirth, particularly when it comes to the wildlife! The trees are opening up, things are coming back to life in so many ways. That means that the ones on the smaller side such as small birds, are really getting out there to start enjoying it and soaking in the suns rays and getting ready for mating season!

I'm lucky to have purchased a long-range lens for our DSLR camera, it's really come in handy in so many ways! We've been able to take advantage of the thing on a few of our trips but most importantly, whenever we want to. I'm still going to look for a better lens, which I guess is the curse of those who are into digital cameras hahaha. Always gotta make an improvement to the things you've got! Still, the camera and lens we've got has been a significant improvement to what we were using before, so I'm overall happy with that aspect!

This was the first time I pulled out the camera to take some photos of the local wildlife. I guess I could have done it last year but for whatever reason I didn't, so I knew I wanted to give it a whirl! I was a little disappointed, I saw a LOT of birds but most of them were too far away for me to really even get a decent shot of them. I thankfully did manage to snag two! There was a wood pecker that was perusing around looking for snacks to eat in the trees, though he wasn't successful I did get some nice shots of it!

I don't know for sure which exact name of woodpecker this was but I've seen them quite a bit over the past few years. My son and I go frequently for walks and we see these guys pecking away at the bark of the trees looking for snacks, so it was cool to see one right away instead of the common birds.

He was hopping around to different branches, trying to get a good look around. I don't know if it was more looking for a mate than anything, but it wasn't making calls. Perhaps it was a female, scoping out the male options that were around. Hard to say but it was going to a few different tree limbs during the time I was out on the deck snapping some photos.

Can you spot the red breasted robin here? It's a little hard to see! This was the limit of the range of my camera, I couldn't get one closer than this sadly but it is definitely one of the most common birds we have around. They are quite the loud ones as well! They make all kinds of calls, though not as much as the bluejay does. I was hoping to get a few pictures of a blue jay or a cardinal but it wasn't in the cards on this go-round for getting some bird photos. I'm going to try and take the camera with me on the walk with my son every once in a while to hope I can get a photo or two of some birds. I don't like bringing it though because I'm afraid that it's going to get broken lol

I don't know the specific focal and all that of the pictures but I'm trying to pay a little more attention to these things so I can track them and see what works well!
