Ozone for Cleaning Food and Health
Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to appreciate the addition of some kitchen tech to our arsenal!
Ozone for Cleaning Food and Health
When it comes to keeping ourselves healthy and free of toxins, there are so many things that we can do. The beauty of the day that we live in today is that there is so much incredible technology available to us, that hasn't been available to people even a few decades ago.
This also means that there is a lot of technology and things out there that are not good for us, which is why we have to try to do our best to find things that help but also don't break the bank. This is one of those such devices!
Ozone is one of the best ways to kill things that we don't want. It's one of the reasons that it's got a layer of the stuff up in the upper atmosphere! It protects the Earth with these incredible properties. It kills viruses, bacteria, pathogens, mold among many others and is used in many industries all around the world from food to cleaning because of these wonderful properties. source
It is also a very efficient and inexpensive way to do these types of cleaning without needing to use all kinds of nasty chemicals. It's becoming more popular in the health sphere of late, because of the advances in technology that allow it to come at a much more affordable price than before. The direction of using less chemicals for us, is a huge component of why we eventually made the investment in one!
What we've done is start to use this on any of the produce that we get from the farm or the store, with some limits. There are some situations where it's really not possible to add the vegetables or fruit to this such as watermelon or pineapple, but for many others we do.
It also worked out that my wife got a container last year that we use to fill up with water and cleaned our fruits and veggies. We would use vinegar with it before and that definitely works as well, but the challenge with that is sometimes the foods would absorb the vinegar flavor and that's not always pleasant! The little man is not a fan of vinegar tasting strawberries lol.
The nice thing about the tray and the Ozone Bubbler, as it's called, is that I can fill it up with some water, add whatever we need to in there and turn it on. For cleaning fruits and vegetables, they recommend that we put it on for 10 minutes. This allows the water to get nicely full of Ozone and kills the nasty stuff at the same time.
The company, Therasage, has been one I've heard about for a little bit but ended up losing sight of them. We found it again earlier this year with a podcast that I started to listen to and I dove right in, knowing that we also talked about wanting to invest in an ozone generator. It felt like it was meant to be that I heard it when I did!
The good thing about it as well is they claim that Ozone also breaks down and destroys the chemicals that are sprayed on food like pesticides and things like that. I don't know the science behind that yet, but I plan to look into that in the coming weeks to make sure I understand what it does and how to make sure it's effective. Even if it breaks the stuff down and reduces it's behavior by 50% I would be happy! They spray some nasty shit on the food that we get these days, so anything we can do to reduce the chemical burden is huge.
We've had the Bubbler for a few weeks now and I use it every time we get. They say we can also add this device to a bath if we take one, but we have to make sure to be careful. Ozone is a toxic substance at certain concentrations so you have to be careful and this one here wouldn't kill you, but it would cause irritation. My wife has been hesitant to use it in the bath just yet so we are going to have it be used by me first. I don't normally take baths but I do that in the fall or wintertime so it will be a little bit before we give it a whirl.
With other ozone generators, they have a lot of ways in which it can be harmful to people but the most important part is that the quantity of ozone is variable. This can be helpful in the right scenario but this particular device we have is limited to a maximum amount of ozone where it's effective but not deadly. There are some ozone devices that are used on an industrial scale to kill things like mold and is extremely toxic.
If you're interested in seeing if you'd like one of them yourself, the link below is where to get the Bubbler! I am going to be posting an update in a few months but so far so good, we love it!

I never really thought of using one in food preservation before, but it's a really great idea. I built a DIY ozone generator decades ago to scrub the smell of my indoor marijuana plants, but scrapped it for parts when I quit growing indoors. I think it may be time to dust off the electronics workbench...
That’s awesome dude, I would probably have fun messing around with you and your home projects lol I aspire to be handy like that when I get a real house with a workshop and stuff!
This podcast episode, if you listen to podcasts, got me a lot of information about them and I bought one. It was 110$, so it really wasn’t bad and it’s an American small business company so I was excited to support them.
My wife and I have been looking into ozone for a few years now but haven’t pulled the trigger on it until this one. Really happy with it so far, hopefully it will last a long time!
That's not a bad price. If they're American made, I might just buy one to support their business.
If you're into reading, Project Gutenburg has a bunch of free download PDFs of old late 19th century electricity studies that are FULL of really useful information, and pretty detailed plans on how to make some remarkably simple generators, batteries, high power capacitors... real old horror movie mad scientist lab stuff!
That’s awesome thanks and for sure I am. Do I web search them to find it? I like keeping things like that anyway because you never know if shit is going to go offline these days.
Search for them here...

Dope thanks man!
Cleaning the fruit first is certainly quite good and you already like the fruit.
Yeah we should clean all our food!
Wow, this is such a nice device! Is this only sold in your country? I only heard about it today.
They do have a version on their website for international people! It's a few dollars more but it's worth it!
I think it's one of the best technology invented because it has double purpose to help the environment and to help the mankind.😊
Yeah it's a really good device and is far more natural than a lot of things out there.
A big round of applause to the developer of that technology. 😊
So if there is any chemical in my food, the ozone machine will destroy it?
That’s fantastic though
I guess it is not common yet because I have never seen or heard of it before
Yeah it's a really good device and it's common in certain groups of people. They use these devices industrially to clean water and stuff. It's interesting!
I would love me a tech that can clean my cucumbers. I take a lot of cucumber and I want to actually agree that cleaning with exposure to chemicals is really important.
This company does ship internationally!
At the same time though, they do make ozone generators for all kinds of stuff and food grade is an important element. In the meantime, using 5% white vinegar and a bowl of water to soak your cucumbers for 5-10 minutes should do the trick until you get an ozone machine!
Cucumber is very beneficial for humans especially I like to eat cucumber for my weight control.
