Normies Jumping In

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about how things are moving forward as far as people being exposed to and accepting Bitcoin!

Normies Jumping In

Are we breaking the barrier? I don't mean Normies in a derogatory sense but this was a surprise for me!

The other day, I was talking to a friend of mine at work. We were just shooting the shit in a meeting with a few of us waiting to get things started. One of them said that they are waiting to win the lottery so they can stop doing the crap that they're doing. A few laughed but one of my friends said that he's hoping Bitcoin really pulls out for him and he's looking forward to what the halving event will bring us.

IMG_1335.jpg

I was pretty excited but I know that there are likely dozens of people that I work with that are into crypto and the like. It's one of those weird things though - where you don't talk a lot about it and I find that an interesting perspective. I also don't talk about crypto much, I'll mention an off-hand type of thing about Bitcoin here and there but not really much beyond that. I also never talk about Hive because that's a paradigm shift that a lot of people really aren't ready for.

With my friend and his talk of Bitcoin though, I do wonder if there are more people that are willing to explore the depths of what crypto can offer. I know that I'm certainly going to try and chat with him about it all when we get an opportunity. There is sometimes weeks that go by when I don't talk to him but I did send him a message that the halving event is likely not going to be the catalyst for the bull run the way a bunch of people on here like Edicted are thinking. I tend to agree with them on that, I think the halving event is certainly going to be important but I don't think that it's going to be the wild thing that people are trying to make it out to be.

IMG_1344.jpeg

With how obsessed and focused people were about getting big daddy government to govern them harder with the Bitcoin ETF, I'm not too optimistic that people are thinking about this intelligently but rather as a way to piss away their time and money over something stupid.

I knew one of my other work friends was into crypto because him and I talked a little bit about it once and I asked him if he knew that the Bitcoin whitepaper was on his Mac computer and he said that he knew about it which was cool. Besides that guy, I didn't really find another guy until the other day when I was chatting with this other coworker that we'll call John. I think that John and I see eye to eye on a lot of things so it makes sense that he would be into crypto but I also know that John has a lot of debts that he admitted to hahaha so I don't think that his vision of crypto is as libertarian as mine is. It's all good though, it's nice to see that he's got exposure to it!

That makes me think that there are more people who are knowledgeable to it these days than there were even a year ago or two. I think that makes sense given that we did have a couple bull runs since I've gotten into crypto so it is likely that it's going to happen. The thing I'm wondering is if the tide is turning in the positive direction for people becoming aware of Bitcoin and things like Monero and what they represent or if it's just people who are looking at it like the new stock market and want to get in on it early so they can make a bunch of shitty fiat dollars instead of trying to change the financial paradigm for the better of humanity.

I've got hope that John is more on the libertarian side of it, as we talked about other things of that nature so I will try and make it a point to chat with him, likely trying to move it off company software so we don't get any stupid shit that goes on with us doing it on it. I'm a lot more skeptical and suspicious of doing these things on anything company related but sadly there are a lot of people who are willy-nilly with their information and habits. They make for easy targets of these gigantic companies and people who steal information left and right which is unfortunate.

IMG_1327.jpeg

I think I'm going to try and get with John sometime next week to pick his brain on what he knows and see if I can gain a deeper friendship with the guy over things like Bitcoin and the crypto ecosystem!

I think sometimes(or for some people) it's a natural progression where they come for the superficial stuff but then stay because of the underlying principles about this new ecosystem. It's great to see normies talking about crypto and taking interest in it.

Yeah I think if the desire is there and the capability to expand - they will be able to adapt and change with the times in terms of crypto. There are going to be a lot of people who don't adapt though sadly!

Indeed! They won't able to row and will be pushed by the waves to the shore :)

I hope you get to have more talk with that your friend but the good thing is that normies are also accepting cryptocurrency
That’s so good to know

I think it's more of the latter, with a few people falling in th former category. Most people are getting in because they see or have heard what Bitcoin did in the last bull and want to get a taste of that bull profit or whatever. Honestly, I think whatever peoples' reasons are for adopting crypto, it doesn't really matter because in the long run, they'll take their time to learn about it. It's like how people come to Hive to "earn" and end up finding a community here and staying.

Yeah sadly there's a lot of "green candle" people who just see it as a way to make a few dollars. That's a bunch of BS in my opinion lol

It's interesting to me how many people know about bitcoin and crypto in general but just have no actual knowledge about how it works or how to use it. Steemit (yeah I'm old school here 😂) was actually how I personally got into crypto at all. I was always curious about bitcoin but back then it just seemed too technical, too scary, ironically too expensive (at $450 per Bitcoin!). Steemit was free, Hive still is, and I still say that Hive is one of, if not the best way to actually get into crypto, because your investment is just time. It's essentially risk free. I think we are still quite a way off from actual normie adoption though, but it's definitely getting easier and easier, which is good.

Yeah Steem was one of my real forays into it as well. I had done some trading and followed some advice of a guy or two I talked to but it wasn't until I dove into Steem that I really learned a lot! It's a great educational tool to help people transition from no knowledge up to something that is basic and above if they desire to expand!

Yeah I agree. I wish that Hive was just idiot proof to onboard, I think that would help a lot more people get into it. Also it's not necessarily a bad thing but the Hive ecosystem has gotten a bit complex with all the different platforms available now. I know that's part of decentralization and I love it, but most people who have no clue about blockchain or crypto will have a really hard time navigating between hive blog, peakd, 3speak, liketu, and others. It makes sense once you understand the ecosystem a bit and can figure out things like Keychain but that's a steep learning curve for a lot of people. I think it's working itself out though and becoming easier and easier.

Yeah that's for sure. It is a strength and a challenge at the same time. Sadly there are a lot of people who are too used to being spoon fed easy stuff on the mainstream platforms like Fakebook. I kind of think it like survival of the fittest in some ways - where those who can adapt will be much better off in the long run. I want to help people learn and adapt though for sure!

Yeah I know, there's going to be a lot of pain but that's how change happens. It's never easy but often it's for the better in the long run.
