Importance of Nasal Breathing

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share something I had a feeling about, but didn't really know a whole lot until recently! Breathing through our nose is important!

Importance of Nasal Breathing

When we sleep, most of us generally breathe through our nose which is the natural way, versus breathing through our mouths. We've been having some issues lately which has led us down this rabbit hole, and it's quite interesting why it's important to get the root causes of the issue fixed so we can get back to breathing through our mouth!

We've all been there - you're sick or got allergies and your nose is all jacked up and stuffy so you have to breathe through your mouth. You don't sleep very well because it doesn't feel natural and that's because it's not! Breathing through our nose versus our mouth, something very basic and simple, is quite a big difference when it comes to our physiology! There are all kinds of negative health consequences that arise from breathing through our mouths all the time. source

Recently one of us in my family have been having these issues. Besides the snoring which is certainly annoying, some of these other complications have arisen and it's been a challenge to manage them! We didn't really realize how much of an effect it has on us until we started to look into it more from a different perspective and boy is it surprising!

Breathing and sleeping are one of those things that we definitely take advantage of, as with so many other things related to our bodies, because they generally work well! When one of those things gets disrupted, it really throws us for a loop. That's certainly one of the things we've been realizing and trying to manage ourselves. There are a host of things that can occur to cause nasal stuffiness so it's not an easy thing to just decide one day that we aren't going to be dealing with a stuffy nose anymore. Certainly we could take medication to temporarily reduce or eliminate the stuffiness but that's not a viable solution in all honesty. You need to get to the root cause of an issue to deal with it!

IMG_2060.jpg

It's been a journey trying to figure out what is causing the stuffiness; is it seasonal allergies, food allergies, dental issues? The possibilities are quite numerous and it's important that we take it one step at a time, which is what we are doing, although the process is certainly not fast. I think one of the issues in the world today that we are dealing with is the notion that something should be fixed overnight. Yeah the things that get fixed overnight are usually ones that don't end well in the long run! You can cut, medicate or forcibly do something that may eliminate the one problem but it can lead to a vast host of other issues down the line. This is where the true problem lies. It's so important to address the root of the issue than trying to cut away at the periphery because once you cut away, it's very difficult or impossible to get those other things back!

Armed with knowledge, we are certainly hoping to address the root cause of the mouth breathing at night so we can alleviate or eliminate further complications that arise in the future!

Often times, these are mechanism that the body do for us naturally without any conscious intervention from our part. It's only when things become unnatural that our conscious attention is drawn to it and we tend find ways to solve it. Finding the root cause can be a hard task but it is so much worth it as this tends to solve the issue effectively. I hope you soon discover what the root cause is!

Thanks, yeah for sure! The body is an incredible machine and through a considerable amount of history, has developed lots of mechanisms to do things like this! We are foolish to think that we can disrupt and change it without consequences, which is something we especially need to keep in mind in the advent of technology that is being pushed onto us like Neuralink and others. It is unnatural and our body WILL reject them.

Rightly said! Anything that's foreign or doesn't align with this incredible machine we call our body will get rejected. Besides, most of these technological inventions do not take in the consideration of the multifaceted nature of a human being, the body is only one aspect that's connected to other aspects too. Tampering with one aspect will have effects on the other.

Just our situation but it may apply here.

My wife @pooky-jax has just started on a CPAP. She is getting sone of the best sleep of her life. She was a horrible snorer.

My bonus is "PEACE & QUIET"

The machine is next gen and silent. Now so is She. 🥱🥱😴😴💤💤💤

I am considering trying it. Something I thought I would never do. But seeing the results up close and personal on top of never one person telling me a bad review about them. I have to consider it...

Also I have not noticed the dry mouth runny nose and sneezing less since an upgrade 2 months back with our HVAC. It has two... Count em...

Ultraviolet air treatments. One pre air exchanger and the high dollar one is post.

I definitely can tell the difference. And a few years back we put in a 10k water treatment system.

Am I becoming a germaphobe..? 😳

A CPAP is certainly an important device for some! I'm not ready to use one yet LOL but with the increase in technological advancements for them, it is certainly a decent idea!

The air purifying system sounds good, we are doing some stuff in our house to help clean things up a bit but to try not to go to the extreme. I will have to look into the UV one, we know that UV light is incredibly powerful at killing shit!

I think one of the issues we are dealing with is mold - and it's a fucking bitch to get help on it, but also get it taken care of since we live in a condo and the management company are a bunch of incompetent fucks.

L👀k into Sheman Nugents book she wrote about that mold thing. They had to literally condemn the house they had the house that was on MTV Cribs way back in the day. Wicked shit that mold. Her and Ted would probably be dead had they not figured out what it was...

When I newly saw my heart diagnosis, I started practising relaxation breathing, deep breathing with the nostrils because of my high heart rate and at the end of the day, breathing through the nose is much better.

Yeah for sure! It's unfortunate to hear of your heart issues but glad that you've understood ways that we can learn to cope and manage with it. It's important that we do things ourselves and not rely on medicine or doctors for everything!

Exactly, it's right, sometimes it's us who can mostly do the best for ourselves when it comes to health. Learning is important, exposure to new knowledge as well.

Super important indeed. I have been aware of this for several years now. Having had to deal with respiratory issues, since I was a baby in an incubator, breathing has been of paramount importance for me. It still doesn't come easily to me though.

On the plus side, it has led to me looking for a more natural environment and to spending more time outdoors, in nature. I also tend to breathe deeper, while in bath.

Cheers for the reminder and for spreading the word :<)

I’ve been diagnosed with asthma since I was thirteen and that was over a decade ago. There are times when my heart will be blocked but I just have to find a way to breathe so there are times when I just force myself to breathe through my mouth
