Grapes Monochrome Monday

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share some pictures from our recent adventure grape picking again this year!

Grapes Monochrome Monday

Grape picking has been one of those activities that we really have come to enjoy. We missed it last year!

We randomly, my wife and I, went to a vineyard one day a few years ago looking for something to do and we didn't realize that we would end up making some really good friends in the process! It was definitely one of the best things we've done in a really long time, and it's paying dividends many years later!

The vineyard we go to every year numerous times a year, but most specifically when it is grape picking season, has been a staple in our activities. It brings us together with some really good friends, we tell stories, laugh, have a good time and just enjoy being outside doing something different. It's really something special!

Sadly last year we had a late frost in May and that meant that it killed all of the stone fruits like grapes, peaches, nectarines and others. This was a really hard hit for us because we had really enjoyed doing the grape picking but we made due with what we could and spent a day there instead. Thankfully this year we didn't have any inclement weather and that meant that grape season was on again!

Thankfully the guy who owns the vineyard had been saving a lot of his bottles of wine because he had enough in storage for 2 years of no picking, which would absolutely suck, but it thankfully gave him some wiggle room. It really paid off that year, so we were eager to help him pick as many grapes as we could to help replenish his stocks!

The great part about it is that we got to see some friends that we haven't seen in a few months, and they got to spend time with us as well as the little man.

In the process, I was able to take some really cool and interesting photos of the grapes I think, and turn a few into black and white! It's interesting, but you can definitely tell these are dark grapes because they turn a different color in black and white versus the green ones. We ended up picking the green ones really quickly so I couldn't get a photo of that this year but it was still nice to see all of the red ones! The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day for sure, but one of these days I wouldn't mind an overcast or bit of dark clouds to see how the pictures would come out a little differently, then turning it into black and white!

The guy who owns the vineyard should be known as the best in keeping something for him to store the wines for over two years
I love those grapes in the picture

I've been blueberry picking, but not grape picking. I bet it was a lot of fun. The grapes look delicious, even in black and white!

Yeah it's a lot of fun for sure! With grapes you have to be more careful than blueberries for hornets, bees and wasps. They loooooove the sugar in the grapes haha. Plus birds are dive bombing the vineyard too!

Haha it's part of the experience. In 4 years I haven't been stung once, but now I jinxed it :D. You just gotta shake the trellis a little bit to move it and the bees get scared and fly away then you can go back to picking.

Oh, that doesn't sound so bad then. I can actually handle bees and spiders fine. It's snakes I can't stand!
