Climbing Streak
Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to chat a little bit about how intense it was to do rock climbing 3 days in a row LOL
Climbing Streak
Three days in a row, does that sound pathetic to you? Well in my 20's I think it would but these days, it was actually freaking tough lol
The little man and I were having fun the other day, I had an extra day off work and it worked out because the weather was kind of crappy so we decided to hit the rock gym like we normally do at least once on the weekend except this time we said screw it, let's go for it 3 days in a row! In hindsight it wasn't the best idea.. but it was still a whole lot of fun!
This was also a double score in that there is already a rock climbing community here on Hive, and it's not a dead one. It gets posted in every few weeks which is fine, it's a little bit of a niche community.. but it's good to have one nonetheless!
Indoor rock climbing is definitely one of my new favorite passions for so many reasons. I was always a climber as a kid but I really didn't know what it was except for just climbing. I lived next to a large patch of forest which was awesome because I could get up there any day of the week just by walking a little bit and I was in the woods with lots of boulders and giant things to climb on. This provided quite a bit of entertainment! With moving away from my parents house years ago, I lost touch with that type of stuff for quite a while.
Fast forward a few years ago, my wife and I did it a couple times before we had our son and it was a lot of fun! I didn't really do it since then, taking care of the kiddo and family was more important than that but last year I got back into it by going climbing one day and then I brought my son a few weeks later and he was hooked! It's a great way to have some really fun exercise.
What I mostly enjoy about it as well is that my son likes it. He likes most of the things that I do which is great but I know he's going to grow out of a number of these things which is okay, but if there's one thing that I hope I can get him to stick with it's climbing. It's such incredible exercise but it's also incredibly analytical and is a lot more complicated than I thought when I did it the first few times! Yeah you can go up a wall and shit but if you really want to get good at it, you have to strengthen yourself quite a bit but also figure out the most efficient and smoothest way to do some of the movements so that you minimize expended energy and maximize movement in a certain direction.
I'm definitely by no means incredible at it but I would like to think that I could fair pretty well out in the wilderness for a climb! I don't know if I would feel confident enough to rope climb a mountain right now but maybe a good sized boulder lol.
The thing I like about it as well is with the gyms that we go to, they are always changing things up and moving the sets around. It provides quite a bit of interesting elements and differences each time we go. We have a few gyms near us so we were able to hit 3 of them in the days that I was off which was a lot of fun. This also provided the necessary change of scenery for each time we were going so that it wasn't the same routes you were trying day in and day out. That's definitely a fun thing to do, but having variety is much better!
I have never taken my phone up with me on a climb but I wanted to take a little bit of an action shot from the top lol this was me topping a 35 foot wall, at least I think it was 35 feet. I know the auto-belay said it was a 40 foot cord which doesn't sound like a lot.. but when you're up there at the top it is a little dizzying to look down lol. I get a little nervous when I am repelling backwards and putting my faith in the lord that it won't snap and destroy my hahaha. It's so much fun though, and I love the challenge of topping these crazy high walls!
The bad part of 3 days of climbing though.. my poor son got so worn out that he got sick! I felt terrible but he recovered to a better state in a few days which was good. I know that we won't be doing 3 days in a row climbing again until he's a bit older lol but he did great overall! I thought that I would be able to handle it ok, but he rocked it like a little champ! It was awesome to see.

PRE sounds like an interesting token. Is it a bit like Brave?
Don’t even get me started on the intensity of climbing! I believe three consecutive days in a climbing gym deserves respect; that’s intense. This kind of pumps me up to find one near me, but I recently moved so I don’t the surrounding towns well enough.
Climbing feels like one of those things that makes good stories, too. People climb in wild situations and write about it afterwards. Fun read.
I love it! Dude I just saw where you're at, there's a BUNCH near you. Most accessible is likely going to be Rock Spot, there’s a few locations. There’s also Metro Rock.
I’m very familiar with where you’re at :D
Presearch is a little bit like brave except you get paid per search whereas brave pays you per ad they serve you. I think Presearch is going to be a great tech in the future. There’s what’s called keyword staking where you can buy a bunch of PRE and “stake” it on a search term. The #1 stake gets the advertisement served to people when they search. For example I used to have the #1 Leo finance stake but there wasn’t really a way to benefit off that. I don’t know who has it now and I don’t have anything else to stake on so I just accumulate it slowly.
Always wanted to try climbing but just never got into it. Now I'm almost 40 and a little bit fat 😅. I was big into skateboarding and snowboarding growing up, now I'm almost exclusively about surfing, surfing is the absolute bees knees to me. But I will be hitting up the gym starting March and trying to lose the gut so maybe I'll give climbing a shot one of these days, always looked super fun to me!
It's a lot of fun climbing! I used to skate too for years but gave that up years ago sadly. It was great exercise! Surfing does look like a lot of fun - we just don't have storage for the gear sadly but also the ocean here is COLD lol. I know wet/dry suits but still.
Climbing is great exercise for sure and there's plenty of people in their 20's to 60's who do it! You get a considerable amount of exercise and build great lean muscles. Hopefully you can give it a try!
I'd really love to give it a shot, will see if there are any gyms around me, I live in Barcelona so I'm sure there are some in the city.
You should give surfing a shot, storage isn't bad if you have a yard, garage or even just a closet. I've surfed in Canada for years and literally been out in the water with snow falling. With a proper wetsuit, booties, gloves and hood it's honestly not an issue. Current wet suit tech is actually incredible. Surfing for me is the answer getting older, it's waaaaay easier on the knees, and so long as you don't bail in shallow water falling is the cushiest of all board sports. Personally, if you've ever been into board sports, surfing is the must learn if you are near a surfable body of water.
Haha you’re going to make me sign up for a lesson. Yeah I’m near an ocean right now so we go to the beach all the time but the water temp is what kills is the most. With the gear though it sounds like it’s possible! My son has been wanting to try it for a while so maybe this year we will give it a whirl!
Ya the knees is one of the reasons I had to stop skating lol and my wrists. I fell one last time after not skating for a few months and jacked up my wrist pretty bad where I can’t do push ups anymore with hands flat on the ground. It was the last straw for me sadly!
Bro I hear you, I have avoided skating seriously for years now. I still try to go cruise around once in a while, but I haven't been in a park or trying serious tricks for maybe four or five years. You should definitely give surfing a shot! It's an awesome sport to get into and SUPER healthy, works odd muscle groups, but if you're a climber probably not ones that your not into. Great fun for the kids too, and if you're in a place where you can rent gear and get a lesson or two that makes starting out pretty easy.
I’ve never had any indoor fun climbing before but it looks like it will be fun. I am also sure that your little man will do much enjoy it
That’s certain
It is a lot of fun hopefully you get to try it one day!
oooh yeahhh I do wanna try this activity as well! we have no active place for it now in my city, but I plan to visit another one, where there is a huge "hill" like this both for adults and kids.
That's great I hope you get to experience it! It's one of the sports that's popular worldwide which is really cool but maybe not to the extent we are aware of spots for it until you look. It's such great fun and exercise!
this type of activity is good exercise for the whole body, especially hands I think
we were watching a TV-show with different sportsmen, and those who had experience in
rock climbing were much better and stronger than any powerlifters and bodybuilders!
Oh for sure! It’s such a different and whole body exercise it’s incredible! I’ve moved muscles that haven’t gotten any action in a very long time while climbing lol and strengthened ones that I didn’t know were weak!
It must have really been a fun time and moment
