Boxelder Beetle Bros

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share the crazy group of beetles that we found the other day!

Beetle Bros

While we are out on the walks that we take, my son and I find some pretty wild things sometimes! This is definitely one of them!

In this one particular spot where we walk, this family has a really nice garden with lots of different things in it. One of the things that it seems to attract though are these crazy swarms of beetles!

Doing a quick internet search has led me to believe that these may be boxelder bugs which seems pretty accurate. They have key identification marks on them so it makes it fairly straight forward to identify the little pests. I'm glad that I haven't seen them before which means that we don't have an issue with them but damn they sound like a pain lol

The bugs enjoy maple trees, boxelder trees ash trees and strawberries according to the link above. Near this spot where the beetles decided to infest is what I think is a maple tree. I can't remember off the top of my head but to the right of them is quite a large tree. I think it's maple but will have to keep an eye out for it now when we go for a walk there next!

One of the things that I don't want to do is kill things unnecessarily. We spent some time looking at them and admiring them but I didn't know anything about the little buggers so we left them alone. If the bugs aren't coming into our house then I usually leave it alone unless it's a mosquito. I kill those shits on sight! Lol

What started out as a bit of a mystery led me to learn a little something about a bug that's in our environment which is cool! I've been able to get some things like this into our sons method of education so I have certainly enjoyed that he is learning things which I think are important. Local flora, fauna and insects are definitely far more important than other things in my opinion!
