Boat Fishing

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to appreciate getting out on a boat versus fishing on land!

Boat Fishing

For me, and many other passionate anglers out there in the world, there isn't much of a comparison to fishing from a boat versus fishing from land or in waders!

Boat fishing is definitely one of the best ways to experience the whole fishing culture and have fun with it. It's by far the best way to get out there and go fishing! What's tricky though is when you're on a boat, you have so many options it's hard to figure out what one you should be doing hahaha.

The little man and I got to do some good boat fishing this summer that's for sure. We haven't caught many things when we were out on the boats which is a little sad for me, as some of my best memories as a kid are out there on the boat with my dad and killing the fishing spots.

What's important though is to keep the boating alive and in the realm of possibility. Granted we don't own a boat ourselves but we've had access a few different times this summer to get out there and do some fishing on a boat so we hopped right on that shizz!

One of the ways that I've come to enjoy, although it's a lot more work for sure, is to get out there and have fun on a canoe. Canoes are a great intermediate way to do some fishing in that it allows you to transport the thing around a lot easier than a big aluminum boat or a much bigger fiberglass boat. Don't get me wrong I would love one of those other boats, or any boat for that matter, but I think starting with a canoe is a pretty decent way to go about it all. It helps teach me how to control the thing and I'm one of those that likes to start at the most basic and then get more advanced from there. I think that type of mindset is good because you can appreciate what it's like to zoom around in a gas powered boat instead of a paddle canoe.

The little man is appreciative regardless of what mode of transportation we use for it because he's thankfully a pretty damn good kid if I do say so myself, he enjoys just being out there. He did although get a little scared when we were in Maine and out on the canoe with some guy being an asshole and threw some pretty significant waves at us. I definitely gave him a few choice words as he drove off the prick!

The conundrum for me when I'm on a boat though is where do I go fish?! With fishing from shore, you don't have that conundrum mostly because you can only get to a very small number of spots lol so you're limited to what you can get to by foot. Thankfully we made the investment and got some waders to supplement our abilities and get out there walking in the water in the shallower spots but being out on the boat is certainly my preferred mode of fishing.

We get to also see all kinds of cool stuff when we're on a boat, particularly a canoe. The canoes have a very good ability on the water to bring you wherever you need to go with little or no hassle. With a motorized boat you have to be very careful and aware of where you're at because you don't want to fuck up the propeller on a rock or get it grounded in some sand and some other nasty stuff. The canoe was fun in that we were able to push 'er right up agains the shoreline! Granted this picture right here was because of that asshole in the power boat cramping on our style but still. I was able to get right into the island to get sheltered and that would have been impossible with the motor boat.

Where the little man really shined though was our friends bass boat. This thing was all decked out with the coolest gadgets and things that a professional uses. He did a lot of competition fishing in his earlier years and his boat here is still in good shape. The little man had a lot of fun steering the boat for us and spent the majority of time driving it instead of fishing. That worked out because we didn't have much success where we were at sadly lol he did a great job though! We didn't hit anything and he kept the speed reasonable and steered a lot better than I would have thought.

What's hilarious was that I didn't know he was sticking his feet off the side of the boat like that until I just looked at this picture hahaha. Living on the edge, the little shit! Thankfully he was decked out with his grown up life jacket instead of his swimmies in case he fell overboard but he managed to stay in the boat which is good.

I'm hoping that next year and in the near future we will be able to solve for our lack of a boat problem but in the meantime, we have good access to a canoe that we can use whenever we want so we are going to be taking the liberty of that and bringing it out a few more times before the fishing season ends and they drain the lake we go fishing at. I'm looking forward to it for sure!

I wish you can put yourself in a bigger boat so that you and your son can continue to enjoy being together and share with each other the meaning of nature, healthy recreation, and concentration, to increase the development of self-esteem and be an independent human being.

You are doing wonderful educational work for the life of that little giant that is your beloved son... I congratulate you for having such nice feelings to make your son a good man.☮️ @cmplxty

A little fisherman in his natural habitat.

He did although get a little scared when we were in Maine and out on the canoe with some guy being an asshole and threw some pretty significant waves at us.

Some ppl should be banned from outdoor spots... same for ppl who go camping and bring loud music, leave trash behind, etc

Hahah for sure, he is in his natural habitat!

Yeah people are assholes sadly, on so many levels lol. I don’t get why they do those things, that’s never something on my mind as something I would do yet people do it all the time.

Lack of education maybe. Or lack of someone to punch them in the face.

Yeah it's great being out on a boat, even if it's a canoe. I would take a tiny dinghy if I could get one! Lol doesn't need to be anything crazy.

Yeah I'm hoping that these are all memories for when he gets older. He's got one hell of a memory already! I'm hoping that some of these will last longer than others though, because I remember the random days where I went fishing with my dad and they are very fond memories!
