Stranded In A Deserted Island? The Three Things I Will Bring

If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring 3 things, what would they be and why?

This question reminds me of Chuck, the FedEx troubleshooter who was stranded on a deserted island after his plane crashed into the sea. Chuck had to rely on the items that washed ashore from the plane. He had to be resourceful and endured the harsh environment he was in. If you're not familiar with Chuck, he is the main character in the movie "Cast Away." Great movie if you will ask.

Anyway, from that question, I started to reflect on what I would actually bring in case I get stranded on a deserted island. On choosing the items I will bring, I need to consider their usefulness, practicality, and importance because, with only three items, I should be able to perform the basic things I need to do to survive.

Multi-functional knife

My first item on the list is a multi-functional knife. With a knife, I can perform various tasks such as collecting materials to build a shelter, gathering food, and protecting myself from wild animals.

Since it is a multi-functional knife, it also contains other mini tools that make it versatile. One of the common tools included in a multi-functional knife is a mini saw. This saw can assist me in cutting wood, which I can eventually use to create a fire, build a shelter, or make other tools.

Scissors are also commonly found in multi-functional knives. This sharp cutting instrument can aid me in cutting soft objects like plant stems, which can be converted into ropes. It also includes a tweezer which can be helpful when you got splinters.

There are still other tools included in a multifunctional knife, and all of them are useful. Aside from their usefulness, they are also handy and do not occupy too much space or weigh a lot.

Medical Kit

When I am talking about importance, this will be a must-have. Being trapped on an island without any other people who can help me in case I get injured, bringing a medical kit is a lifesaver.

One of the common things I can see on a medical kit is antiseptic, bandages, antibacterial ointment, and pain relievers. Getting injured is most likely in an unfamiliar and dangerous environment, and without the stuff that can help me to self-medicate, my chance of surviving drastically falls. Especially since I am stuck in an open environment, open and unprotected wounds are susceptible to bacterial infection.

Bodywarmer

With no electricity and other sources of heat aside from a bonfire, bringing a body warmer is a great help.

Being stranded on a deserted island surrounded by a body of water, plus the dark and cold surroundings that will engulf me at night, hypothermia is possible. Even though I can create a bonfire to keep me warm, for me it will be too hassle to keep it on fire for the duration of the night. Maybe, I can light it up for just a few hours but what if I want to sleep? So far, I am aware that I don’t have the ability to sleepwalk, and do things unconsciously like throwing wood on the fire to keep it burning haha; I am a heavy sleeper.

There are different types of body warmers but I will choose a blanket or a comforter because it can cover my whole body and prevents insects especially the annoying blood-sucker mosquitos to take advantage of me while I am sleeping. It also does not require electricity to function. I just need to use it as is.

That will be my entry for Hive PH’s May Blogging Contest. I enjoyed this a lot; it made me contemplate my preparedness and wiseness in case I got stranded on a deserted island. I also realized that I don’t really know what to do, lol. Maybe I will cry a lot immediately and panic.
