Money is worthless
One of the best news you would hear today is “Money is worthless”. Why on earth would I say that? Ah! “Money, the dreadnought Dollar, the potent Pounds, the yokozuna Yern, the noteworthy Naira, the regal rupee. The reason we wake early and sleep late, the reason some sell their kidney. Let me see your hands up if you detest money. I can practically sell my soul for cash, or is that just a metaphor? Lol. I’m still here breathing and about to drop a truth bomb that might make you knock my cranial skull: Money is worthless.
Before you clutch your wallet in horror, be rest assured that I’m not taking you through a doom story or financial collapse. It’s about realizing that the best things in life are really free. Or we can say they are absurdly cheap. But before we go further, let’s see what money that I call worthless really is.
It’s just a glorified fancy piece of paper or digital asset that we collectively agree to use for transactions. We gave it power that it ordinarily didn’t possess. The only reason $1000 note has value is because we agree it does. It’s just absurd isn’t it? In as much as there’s an agreement, anything can be made valuable, even our poo. Lol.
But wait, I know you might be thinking I’m saying trash, and try to ask a few questions, like, can you survive without money? Or why do you work? Well, you are right if you think that way because it’s a powerful truth. I need money for food, rent, clothing, and those fantastic xmas stuff I ordered on black Friday. However, have you noticed that the experiences we get for free are far more satisfying than the things money can buy?
You can’t purchase common sense with money. While common sense isn’t common, it’s still not purchase able. This is one of the reasons money is overrated. It doesn’t make you smarter. From what I’ve seen so far, money sometimes does the opposite. Have you ever seen someone spend $1000 on something that’s worthless? I mean like a T-shirt that looks like it survived a leopard attack. Money don’t fix stupid.
Sometimes, the rich are just miserable. Wealth never equal happiness. Some of the happy people you see around are living simple and low budget life. They don’t spend all their time chasing money. They are only busy enjoying the little they have __family, community, and the occasional bowl of hot jollof rice.
Someone once argued it that if money cannot buy happiness, then money can buy what can bring happiness. Could that be true? Wait, let’s look into this together. If I get myself a new car or someone gifts me one, I would be happy right. Yes I will. But that won’t last long before it expires if you would agree with me. What if a drunk driver hits me from behind? Lol
How many of us have called our ex worthless? Maybe they gave us joy the first time we met, and they later turned to take the joy away. “Temporary happiness”. That’s what money does.
But if money is worthless, what is the alternative? It’s simple. The alternative is the real currency. I’m not talking about moving to the old system of trade by barter where a fat cow is traded for wifi. (Although imagine how hilarious that would be). What do I mean by the real currency? The truth is it already exists, and we spend it every day. Love , kindness, creativity, and resilience is the real currency.
When you help a stranger, you fee richer even if your bank account remain the same. When someone smiles at you, it doesn’t cost a thing, but it makes your day better. We need to start living the moneyless mindset. Of course I have bills to pay.” Fair point, and I won’t quit my job for the sake of living the moneyless mindset, and start living like hermits. What I’m saying is “Let’s stop giving money more power than it deserves”.
Let’s focus on gratitude. Let’s not obsess over what we don’t have and live a simple life. You feel rich when you make use of what you have with gratitude.
Let’s invest in relationship, and spend time with loved ones. Everything is not just money. Memories last longer than material things.
Technically, I would say money is worthless. It’s only a tool, not a treasure. The things that truly matters is good health, love, laughter…………………………………….. Once we understand that money is worthless with a good sense of reasoning, life begin to feel a lot lighter. Let’s stop chasing paper and start chasing joy. In the end when we leave this world, emphasis won’t be laid on how much we had. They’ll only remember the lives we’ve touched, the smiles we shared, and the hilarious stories we left behind. So let’s calmly enjoy the worthlessness and the ridiculousness of money’s imaginary value. Let’s spend wisely, and never allow it to define us, because life is priceless.
