Hello coffee lovers what a pleasure to take part on this conversation where I can tell you about coffee culture in Cuba. Because coffee reflects very important historical and social traditions for us. Cuban coffee, especially the type known as "Cuban" or "Express", is known for its strong and sweet flavor, usually sweetened with sugar during the elaboration process. This is not lacking in any home. The ritual of preparing coffee is not only a daily practice, but it is also a social moment where friends and family gather to share and enjoy. The first thing a Cuban does when he wakes up is to make coffee.
The cultivation of coffee in Cuba has been crucial for the country's economy, especially in the mountainous regions of the Sierra Maestra, very near to where I live. The variety of Cuban coffee, particularly the "Arabian", is valued by its quality. In addition, coffee production in Cuba has been linked to national identity and has been an integral part of our cultural heritage.
Coffee has transcended its role as a simple drink, it is a symbol of hospitality and camaraderie, so that the way to serve and share it became an essential component of Cuban daily life. The coffee culture in Cuba is a faithful reflection of the history, tradition and community spirit of the country.
I hope I have illustrated a little more about the importance of coffee in my country. I look forward to reading your conversation
@maylink
Thank you for your support
Hi @maylink
That's important since many tourists sometimes only make it to Havana and other popular tourist destinations with large inclusive hotels.
I can attest to that from the way Cubans openly and genuinely included me in their family gatherings when I visited. It's also lovely to hear this coming from a neighbouring Caribbean island to Jamaica, which has international recognition for the Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee.
Thanks for starting the conversation with this informative comment. I hope that you'll stick around and interact in the conversation. :)
Have a relaxing weekend!
Yeah. The Cuban is very hospitable.Surely in each house you visited you offered a cup of coffee.
It is a shame for our coffee to be exported and do not enjoy Cubita or the Serrero coffee.
Thanks for talking to me and for your good wishes.
A hug
You're very welcome!
Yes! Like many things in Cuba. Still, that's what I admired about Cubans in Havana. They are happy and fun-loving people who take the time to enjoy whatever little is available to them:)
Interesting information, I think that nowadays more value is given to the cultivation of coffee, it has definitely become a world beverage.
In our Latin American culture, coffee has strong roots that have become entrenched in every sector of society. Coffee is part of our life and culture.
A cup of coffee for this Saturday☕
Thank you dear. A cup coffee for you
Indeed!
Enjoy your coffee with a smile!
In truth for Cubans coffee is very significantly very significant and as part of ancestral customs.
A hug for you
Nothing like enjoying coffee with friends.
I still remember the good coffee from your province because of the quality it has!
Agreed, in Cuba coffee has completely transcended its role as drink. When you arrive at an somebody's house, wether they invite you to a coffee or not indicates if they regard you as a friend.
Coffee is a special moment of the day to be shared with family and friends, a pause of the routine, an instant to recharge your batteries and keep on keeping on.
That's how it is.Drinking coffee is a ritual for Cubans.
Thanks for joining the conversation
And it's a great energy recharge hahaha. Cheers!
Hello, @maylink.
I read your comment about Cuban coffee and I think that all the properties you say correspond to the coffee I like to drink.
As in your country, in mine coffee is an important part of the national identity and it is possible to get it of quite good quality. Likewise, the coffee that is usually available is of the Arabica variety.
Recently I read that a genetic variety had been developed in Venezuela known as Monte Claro, and apparently it is very good.
I would love to try it as much as I would like to try the good Cuban coffee you describe.
Thank you for sharing such an expressive and clear commentary. It really must be a privilege to have such a delight at your disposal.
🌿☕
Thanks to you friend for continuing this conversation. What a pleasure that you also enjoy coffee.
I had never heard that type of Venezuelan coffee but I know that they also make excellent crops.
I love the Greece that you use and that here in Cuba are not seen.
I am very happy that coffee has been the reason for greeting us.A hug
That's right my friend! In Venezuela there is more and more competition in terms of coffee production!
We have many points in common, for us in Venezuela it also implies family and friendships. It is a drink that we share in every home, at home we never lack coffee powder and if there is none, we immediately send it to buy hahaha. The Andean zone is where most coffee is grown, but not in the last few years, in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela we also have coffee plantations. Thanks for sharing your culture. Greetings 🤗We have many points in common, for us in Venezuela it also implies family and friendships. Hello dear, we really have many things in common and it is beautiful to share them.
That friends do not miss, or coffee.
A great greeting
I could perhaps talk at length about some aspects of the development of the coffee shop business in my city, but I will refer to just one that has caught my attention.
Just yesterday, at the invitation of a friend, I visited a place that I would not have gone to on my own, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.
Normally, I don't like coffee shops that are inside supermarkets or other businesses, but this one knew how to resolve its spaces in a very intelligent way. They were designed as places of transit, keeping the environments separate. Its architecture is simple but very pretty and it has a second level that offers a very attractive view of the city.
There I saw the aspect that I would like to tell you about: in my city there are a large number of young people working in the coffee business, and they are mainly women.
Very young women who, at the same time as developing in the business, have a great drive to improve and study to become professionals. They do this, in addition, sharing other roles as productive members of their families or raising their children alone. Yesterday we celebrated International Women's Day and it was very nice for me, after coming from an event I organized to commemorate that day, to have a nice conversation with the baristas of this coffee shop. Young, friendly, intelligent women, and very motivated to get ahead. In honor of them and to celebrate yesterday a little, I leave this photo:
Now that you mention it, in the only coffee shop in my town almost all workers are women, and as far as I can tell it is pretty much the same in all other coffee shops I have visited in the nearest cities. Mmmmm, maybe that needs some in depth exploration, maybe even a post.
In my city there are two fairly recent phenomena that have caught my attention. One is the flourishing of a type of coffee shop that is housed inside another business, usually a supermarket. The second is the number of young women I have seen working as baristas or tending coffee. Sometimes the staff is exclusively female.
It has caught my attention that I want to write some posts about these two phenomena.
How nice to know that information you share with us about young women. More and more women are becoming empowered in every sector of society. and the most pleasant thing that is done in the coffee sector.👏
A coffee mug to commemorate the struggle and recognition of women.☕
That's right. Cheers!
Strategic locations without a doubt. While we leave the stress of shopping, it is not bad to sit and have a coffee at the same time while chatting. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
Thanks for reading
Excellent Sunday of conversation coffee lovers.
Allow me to answer the question with a poem, a feeling of this great drink that is embedded in every social sector and becomes part of our lives and relationships.
A strong-tasting coffee
for every family that gathers
around a cup.
From childhood,
caffeine becomes
part of us.
The elderly,
children,
young people and
adults,
receive and
with the innocence of a
delicious cup,
cordial ties are strengthened.
Meetings and words
flow like torrents of
water.
Pleasant conversations arise
as a result of caffeine,
invading the body and
making it more social.
A coffee, at any time,
a coffee at every moment,
a coffee in every event,
a coffee in sadness,
a coffee in endless laughter.
More than just a coffee.
A generational tradition,
that passes through every heart and
stays eternal.
Today I come with my participation in the conversation of the week of our beloved coffee group.
I hope to continue reading you in the comments.
I wish you all an excellent start of the week with lots of coffee.☕
Honor to whom honor is due. Wise words.
I live in a country where coffee is part of the daily life of almost all inhabitants. It is a drink that goes beyond the culture and the ways of relating to each other.
Here in #Cuba there is a popular phrase that describes the importance of #coffee and is related to the fact of waking up. Almost everyone, when they arrive at a place in the morning in a bad mood, says: Hey! What's wrong with you? Haven't you had coffee today?
And it is that, in our families, practically from childhood, we are accustomed to consuming it from the beginning of the day, even if it is as a substitute for the breakfast that many do not have on their tables.
If you ask me my opinion on the coffee culture in my country, I would say that I think it is interesting considering how social norms govern, beyond the value it has as a product that is exported.
When one goes to visit a friend, or even if it does not have to be an acquaintance, it can simply be during a casual visit to someone's house, the first thing that will be offered to you is a cup of coffee.
In another way, it is similar. When someone comes to our homes, the first thing they expect to be offered is coffee. And if you manage to make the coffee strong, then without a doubt the satisfaction on everyone's faces will provide a light that is reassuring and peacefully pleasant.
To you, who is reading this, do not hesitate to visit us! You will be welcomed with a smile and a good cup of coffee!
Even in the army they have a daily coffee ration, lol. Coffee has gone even into music, there are several songs about it, some of them more widely known than others.
Every cuban, if it is a real cuban, knows "Mama Inés", nowadays that song is even regarded as cliche, but it is undeniably ingrained into cuban culture.
Yeah!
In my country, as in yours, @roswelborges (Hello!), and I suppose in many places in the world, coffee is the first drink we consume at the beginning of the day. What you say is true: when someone is in a bad mood in the morning, we think that they haven't had their coffee. We also think this when we see someone who is listless or sleepy. Coffee energizes us! In my case, as soon as I get out of bed, I put the coffee pot on the stove.
Hello!
Indeed, it is a very tasty!.
Thank you very much for your words!
Thanks for the invitation! The popular phrase is a good excuse to go have coffee somewhere else when there is none at home hahaha. Best regards from Venezuela.
Thank you!🙏
Hello coffee enthusiasts! I live in Cumanayagua, Cuba, an area where coffee is an extremely important crop. Perhaps because of this, our "coffee culture" is somewhat different from what is typically understood by this term. Most people prefer to buy the beans, roast them, and prepare their own coffee, rather than buying it ready-made at a shop.
Perhaps that’s why we only have one coffee shop, which is never short of customers but also never manages to fill its seating area.
One of my jobs is quite stressful, but since we’re all young, after a particularly intense work meeting, we usually all head to the coffee shop together, and as if by magic, the heavy mood changes.
I’m on the far left of the photo, and everyone in the image is my coworker. No one would guess, looking at us, that we had just come from one of those stormy meetings where no one is satisfied with anything.
The coffee shop has become a gathering spot for the people, where jokes and good vibes are never in short supply. Even though we all have coffee at home, ready to be brewed, nothing beats the experience of sharing a good moment with friends.
How wonderful to be able to drink your own roasted coffee, @cumanauta ! I would love to spend some time in such a place! I would also visit the unique coffee shop, of course! The town I live in has quite a few coffee shops. It's a coastal town and its economy revolves around other things, although the neighboring towns grow some pretty good coffee. Curiously, my town is called Cumaná.
I am preparing a post about coffee and traditions, but it requires quite a lot of pics so it is still in the making. Tank you for your words.
Coffee is a social catalyst in any gathering, everything becomes more enjoyable and conversations flow like a waterfall.
A cup of coffee for this Monday.☕

It is indeed a catalyst for conversation, and it is funny to see people using it as a convenient way to ease away stress. Most of the time conversation around a coffee table is as highly regarded as the coffee in itself.
Another curious fact... In Venezuela we do not buy coffee in beans but in powdered form. Grinding coffee is not common here, only in the countryside is it usually done. Greetings 🤗
Hello, coffee lovers.A pleasure always greet them.
And share that sharing coffee in the small town of Cuba where I live is to share life.
It is not uncommon to get to a house and without you knowing you, they give you a large cup of coffee and thus in all the houses.
I in particular I need to make coffee every morning for my family. And my grandchildren since childhood are coffee lovers.A tradition inherited to the point that they do not like to drink their milk if it is not with the precious coffee.
I hope I contributed to the conversation.I read you. A hug.
Enjoy your coffee!
It is beautiful to gather as a family around coffee. It strengthens bonds of love that transcend generations.☕
A delicious cup of coffee for you tonight.
☕
Oh yes. The coffee in family y so greate. Thank you
A hug for you too. Thanks for sharing your experience.
It is possible that in Venezuela there is a lot of history to tell about coffee. Our culture with this exquisite beverage transcends all the states and towns of the country. We are pure coffee beans. Visitors to our home are well received and the first thing we offer to each one of them is a cup of coffee like the one in the photograph. It is not about giving it a special design, what is special is in the simplicity and love with which we prepare the coffee. As simple as in my photograph, it is received in every home. In the morning and in the afternoon and also at night we drink and offer coffee, nothing more emblematic than this gesture of cordiality.
