Listening to news has been part of me right from when I was a kid. My mom worked in a media house back then. In our house, listening to the news is a pleasure. You see that 7 p.m. news. It is most likely that we will listen to the news because my mother does most of the field work. We are always the ones to give her a comment if she is good or not. Day then, whether you like it or not, one’s is 7 p.m., everyone will assemble at the sitting room to listen to news.

Growing up in a family that has a journalist that made me love news, like today, when I am so addicted to news, even when I am walking on the road, I listen to news because I love to know what is happening within me and outside me. I see news as very great information.

How often do I tune in to this news?

I listen to news 24 hours a day; that is how I was raised up, and there is no day that will pass that I will not tune in to my radio to know what is happening in the world. It is very important for me to know what is happening in the country where I leave.

Do I believe everything they say in the news?

Truth be told, I don’t believe in everything they say in the news, especially in my country. Most times when I listen to the news, I will be like, "This is what people say. I was having a chat with some of my friends about some of the news we listen to. One of my friends told me she thinks the news is being manipulated. Most times she doesn't blame the news channels that have to broadcast the news in the way it will be cool for the people in power; if not, there is a possibility that the channel or the person who broadcast the news will be in danger.

The majority of the things they say in the news are not accurate. I believe that news should be credible and accurate. If one's news is accurate and credible, the people will believe you.

Why did I say I don’t believe in everything they say in the news?

There was this incident that happened in my neighbourhood. I was an eyewitness; so many lives were lost, but when I listened to the news in the evening, the broadcaster only said that four people lost their lives. I was so surprised already. My friends have been telling me that things that the reason in the news is not always true, but I don’t doubt them because I believe that the media people can never lie since they are the eyes of the people.

Do I have doubts that things have been kept from me?

Yes, because there are thousands of things that are being kept away from us when it comes to news. Even the people broadcasting the news are careful of the things they read on air because of their own safety.

How then do you go about getting the right fact?

It is not easy to get the right fact; all I do is source my fact from different channels and get the knowledge or information I want.
