THE ADVENTURES OF ARTIE THE CAT AND MOUSTY AT THE END OF PLAYTIME | Children's book illustrations

Hello all bloggers, I hope you are very well. It's been a few days of hard practice to improve even more details and today I come to share with you one of my latest children's book illustrations. In my last works I have given myself a little more the task of representing super attractive ideas and with a striking color palette and well worked. This time the illustration is inspired by a story I imagined. I'll tell you how it was done and the step by step as always.

Hola a todos blogueros, espero estén muy bien. han pasado unos días de dura practica para mejorar aun mas detalles y hoy vengo a compartirles una de mis ultimas ilustraciones de libro infantil. En mis últimos trabajos me he dado un poco mas la tarea de representar ideas super atractivas y con una paleta de color llamativa y bien trabajada. Esta vez la ilustración está inspirada en una historia que imaginé. Te cuento como fue hacerla y el paso a paso como siempre.

Before starting the sketch I wrote a very short story describing what was going on in the scene of the illustration. This has helped me a lot to have a super clear idea before starting to sketch and build an illustration that speaks for itself and goes hand in hand with the title and the story itself. Most of the illustrations I do lately come to my mind days before I do them, so I write them down briefly so I can read them later and give them continuity.

Antes de empezar el boceto escribí una historia muy corta describiendo lo que pasaba en la escena de la ilustración. Esto me ha ayudado mucho a tener una idea super clara antes de empezar a bocetear y construir una ilustración que hable por si sola y que vaya de la mano con el titulo y con la historia en sí. La mayoría de las ilustraciones que hago últimamente se me ocurren días antes de hacerlas, así que para no olvidarlas las escribo brevemente para luego leerlas y poder darle continuidad.

In this illustration I imagined the story of a cat named "Artie" and a mouse named "Mousty", they venture to escape from school at recess time, every day they go into a magical forest that is behind the school to visit the beings that live there, and return before the bell rings so that no one discovers them.

En esta ilustración imaginé la historia de un gato llamado “Artie” y un ratón llamado “Mousty, estos se aventuran a escaparse de la escuela en la hora del recreo, todos los días se adentran en un bosque mágico que está detrás de la escuela para visitar a los seres que allí viven, y vuelven antes que suene la campana para que nadie los descubra.

In the color palette, I used a combination of pastel tones to give the softness I wanted to achieve in this scene. I used the color combination and color wheel to shade without using the same tone, but using analogous and complementary colors to give a more fantasy effect and with a very nice texture. The effect of achieving a cool shadow from the combination of wine color and a violet shadow.

En la paleta de color, utilicé una combinación de tonos pasteles para darle la suavidad que quería conseguir en esta escena. Usé la combinación de color y rueda cromática para sombrear sin utilizar el mismo tono, si no utilizando colores análogos y complementarios para dar un efecto mas fantasioso y con una textura muy agradable. El efecto de lograr una sombra fría de la combinación de color vino y una sombra violeta.

What I liked the most about this work was painting Artie the cat because it gives way to use very striking textures in his fur, using very successful lines and colors to represent a furry cat. The most difficult thing was to achieve the effect of movement because I had never done it before and I didn't want it to look strange or too realistic, one of the things I find most difficult in my style of children's illustration. Lo que mas me gustó pintar de este trabajo fue pintar al gato Artie porque da paso para usar texturas muy llamativas en su pelaje, utilizando tramas de líneas y colores muy acertados para representar a un gato peludo. Lo mas difícil fue lograr el efecto de movimiento porque nunca lo había hecho y no quería que se viera extraño ni muy realista, una de las cosas que mas me cuesta en mi estilo de ilustración infantil. Cuéntame que te pareció ... y nos vemos otro día con un nuevo trabajo.
