For the Love of Thai Food
My housemate/friend and I were out and about one lovely Sunday, simply chilling and strolling around, when we suddenly thought about what to eat. We discussed numerous options at the time, but we both settled on Thai food. The issue though, was that we had heard of a good place to have it but didn't know precisely where it was, so she eagerly phoned someone to find out.
Within a few minutes of excitement, we finally made our way. We hadn't had Thai food in a long time because we were fascinated with the fish and chips at our favourite restaurant in The Mall.
So, as I was saying, the location is just about 10-15 minutes away from where we are staying, according to her contact. We began by looking for the Simpang (junction), which we immediately spotted. We entered and went straight, then turned left, then right, then left again, until we came to a dead end with no road in sight. Hahaha! It did specify its home number in the given address, but it was funny how we struggled finding it. We then decided to seek the fitting Waze but to no avail. I even come to a point of blurting out "Is this still Brunei?" LMAO
My friend then reversed and tried again, but this time in the opposite direction. Halfway through, she realised she needed to phone her contact again and ask for a detailed description of the location. We both listened to her while she drove till she advised that we start from the beginning of the Simpang. So we did, and we followed each step until we found it!
Looking at the image, it doesn't appear to be a restaurant at all, does it?
As we drove in, we noticed signage by the side that confirmed we were in the right place. Riam Thai Home Cook Restaurant was the name of the restaurant. It's basically a house with a restaurant built behind it. The owner is a Thai woman married to a Bruneian, and she also does the cooking. Oh! I failed to say earlier that making a call ahead of time and booking the food you want to have is required; otherwise, you will have to wait longer if you arrive without first making a call. This was needed because the owner/chef only has one worker, and when we were there, she was on her own.
This is how the inside looked. It's not as lavish as the other restaurants, but it's spotless. We loathed the flower on the wall to the point where I wanted to remove it, but my friend urged me not to. 😝😂
At long last, Food on the table! Yum, Yum Yum.
The Chicken Lemon Grass was the first to show up. It was as beautiful as it was tasty!
That's one bite from me and only two to gobble up the whole lot!
The bite-sized Pandan Chicken came next. This is a must-order dish at every Thai restaurant, for us. The chicken was infused with the sweetness and aroma of pandan leaves, making it exceedingly savoury.
Another must-have in our list, as always, is the Papaya salad. It goes well with the Chicken Lemon Grass and Pandan Chicken. It was not as spicy as the usual as we requested the 'biasa'.
It won't be right if there's no soup, don't you think? Ehehe!
I was about to order Tom Yam when the Sukiyaki soup caught my eye. It's a seafood soup dish with eggs and meehon. It was my first time trying it, and while it tasted delicious, it was really spicy! It was my mistake, though, because I failed to mention the word 'biasa,' which means "not very spicy." Eeeeeeeek.
Tom Yam seafood biasa was my friend's preference. I ended up blending part of her Tom Yam with my Sukiyaki to balance out the spiciness.
We did order Pad Thai prawn too. Another fave of mine which I ate solo as my friend avoids carbs. Yes, I am a big eater! 😅🥴
The flavours in this dish are centered on a sweet-savory mix. It's salty, nutty, and somewhat sweet, and it's a delicious treat!
As shown in my photo, drinks are self-served, with the last order at 9.30 p.m. and the restaurant closing at 10 p.m. Unfortunately, there was no Coke Zero available at the time. We had water instead. 😊
That's me and my housemate/friend capturing a hasty photo that we almost forgot to take. The food was excellent, and the prices were reasonable. The trouble of being lost but eventually finding the place is worthwhile. Thai food rocks! 😊
If you made it this far my dearest fellow Hivers, massive Thank you!
Happy start of the week too and hope you are all well wherever you are!

Lol what a journey finding the restaurant. They should have bigger signage. I bet you're not the one who got lost looking for it. Have a great week ahead!
yeah I agree sis. Nakatago kasi ang signage. But yeah it did not matter na din naman kasi ang sarap talaga ng food dun!!! Balik ako pag laya ko.I still have three days! LOL
It's okay to be lost as long there's good food 😂
The restaurant is really home cook. Parang nasa bahay lang e 😂
yeah. Food is lifer indeed @wittyzell di bale nang magkaligaw ligaw. 😂
YES! 😂
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
Hi there, please note the Pinmapple community is a travel community and not a foodie one. Your foodie posts will be more suited in the foodie based communities. If you post about travel, you are more than welcome to post here and pin to pinmapple.
Oh i just thought the place was relatable too as I was focused on it. The "searching for the place" hence posting it to Pinmapple. Should I edit it then or just leave it like this and note this mistake next time I write? I am hesitant to edit as I was told just recently by hive watchers not to do so.
It's ok, just leave it. This is really a reminder to post in the best fit community for your post. If your post is about food, then foodie community will be a better fit. If it's about your travels to a place and sharing your experience to the place rather than just 'being' at a place, then the travel community will be more suitable. For example, if the restaurant is a very unusual building or set in a beautiful environment, or the way it is run, has say cultural or historical significance which makes it an ideal day out just to see it. If it's about you trying to find the restaurant, that's more of a daily journal post, and just talking about how great the food is, is a foodie post.
These slight differences will help to steer your post to the best fit community to get the most support for your post. Hope this helps.
By the way, you can still pin your post to Pinmapple even if you don't post in the Pinmapple community as many people like to use it to keep track of where they've been.
I will take note of this next time. Thank you @livinguktaiwan. I thought I was in trouble again as I have been told off just recently as I made an error post. EEEEEEK.
Have a good one. 😊
Yes, deleting a post and reposting again is never a good idea on Hive. Many people do it because they got no upvotes the first time round, so they delete it and repost again in the hope of getting more upvotes. That is considered abuse, so please don't do it, even if that's not your intention. Posting in the wrong community is not the end of the world. If you genuinely did it, like posting a foodie post in a sport community, just add an apology comment to the community mods, and they will normally be ok. Deleting it makes you look guilty of something even if you're not!!!
Yeah, I got warned because of that. It was not intended to get more upvotes really. I just thought it's ok to delete, edit and repost again in the correct community as I got it wrongly at first.🤦🏻 But now I know it's a NO-No. Lesson learned. 😨
Grateful though to Hive for not blacklisting my account as soon as I did that mistake. 😅
Tita, I love spicy foods.
Interesting Nani. Not much of the kids I know eats spicy. 😊
I grew up eating spicy foods, tita because my mom and dad eat spicy foods a lot. My dad eats sili everyday lol he even chew 3 pieces of sili. He said that his snack lol
