(ESP/ENG) REDESCUBRIENDO POESÍA "El Tiempo y la Nostalgia en la Pluma de Borges: 1964" / REDISCOVERING POETRY “Time and Nostalgia in Borges' Pen: 1964”.

Me siento obligada a comenzar este espacio contando una breve anécdota. Mi conexión con la lectura, como muchos otros lectores, comenzó a una edad temprana. Contrario a la creencia popular de que el lector es un ser ávido de conocimiento, mi historia con la lectura comenzó producto de mi propia creencia en mi incapacidad para socializar debidamente con un miembro particular de mi familia al que apenas sí conocía y con el que apenas sí hablaba, pero al cual debía visitar de forma regular cada cierto tiempo. No obstante, había algo fascinante sobre la casa de esta persona.
En la mediana biblioteca ubicada en la sala de mi papá conocí un mundo completamente diferente al que estaba acostumbrada a ver en la tele. En su biblioteca conocí sobre historia y cultura universal, sobre grandes monumentos antiguos y, entre otras cosas, sobre poesía. Lo que comenzó como una ruta de escape para sobrellevar nuestros más grandes silencios se terminó convirtiendo en mi mayor fuente de descubrimientos: la lectura.
Hoy retomo parte de esa experiencia y de ese legado redescubriendo entre mis lecturas pendientes un género literario que nos ha entregado mucho,en el cual podemos descubrirnos a nosotros mismos, en palabras atemporales de otras personas. El día de hoy:

I feel compelled to begin this space by telling a brief anecdote. My connection with reading, like many other readers, began at an early age. Contrary to the popular belief that the reader is an avid knowledge-seeker, my history with reading began as a product of my own belief in my inability to properly socialize with a particular member of my family whom I barely knew and with whom I barely spoke, but whom I had to visit on a regular basis from time to time. Nevertheless, there was something fascinating about this person's home.
In the medium-sized library located in my dad's living room I got to know a completely different world than the one I was used to seeing on TV. In his library I learned about history and universal culture, about great ancient monuments and, among other things, about poetry. What began as an escape route to overcome our greatest silences ended up becoming my greatest source of discoveries: reading.
Today I take up part of that experience and that legacy by rediscovering among my pending readings a literary genre that has given us much, in which we can discover ourselves, in the timeless words of other people. Today:
Análisis
Este poema es una reflexión melancólica sobre la memoria y el paso del tiempo. Borges, en su inconfundible estilo, nos invita a caminar junto a él por los pasillos de su mente, donde los recuerdos se desvanecen como sombras en la niebla. Lo que me conmovió profundamente fue cómo el poema captura esa sensación de extrañeza que todos sentimos al mirar atrás, al recordar versiones pasadas de nosotros mismos que ya no reconocemos.
La voz de Borges en "1964" es a la vez íntima y universal. Habla del desvanecimiento inevitable de los días y de la imposibilidad de aferrarnos al tiempo, pero lo hace con una serenidad que no deja espacio para la desesperación. Es como si aceptara con gracia el paso del tiempo, recordándonos que la vida es un cúmulo de momentos que desaparecen tan rápido como llegan.
Analysis
This poem is a melancholic reflection on memory and the passage of time. Borges, in his unmistakable style, invites us to walk with him through the corridors of his mind, where memories fade like shadows in the fog. What touched me deeply was how the poem captures that sense of estrangement we all feel when we look back, remembering past versions of ourselves that we no longer recognize.
Borges' voice in “1964” is both intimate and universal. He speaks of the inevitable fading of days and the impossibility of holding on to time, but he does so with a serenity that leaves no room for despair. It is as if she gracefully accepts the passage of time, reminding us that life is an accumulation of moments that disappear as quickly as they arrive.

Al terminar de leer, me quedé con la sensación de que Borges no solo escribió sobre su propia nostalgia, sino sobre la de todos nosotros. "1964" es un susurro en el oído, un recordatorio de que el tiempo es un río imparable, y nosotros, simples pasajeros de su corriente.
Un poema que, aunque breve, resuena desde el alma del autor.
As I finished reading, I was left with the feeling that Borges was not only writing about his own nostalgia, but about all of ours. “1964” is a whisper in the ear, a reminder that time is an unstoppable river, and we, mere passengers in its current.
A poem that, though brief, resonates from the author's soul.
