Keep Your Long Hands Away
In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets, we look at the Maneuvers ruleset and see what strategy works when Melee attack units get the reach ability. Units with Sneak and Opportunity will still have them and it overrides the Sneak ruleset.
For this battle, my summoner is Mylor Crowling because Thorns should be a good ability for all my units to have since there's a decent chance that my opponent would use more melee attacks since all units gain the reach ability.
1st position - Unicorn Mustang - Void ability will be useful if my opponent decides to do something counterintuitive and go for magic attacks.
2nd position - Grund - Doublestrike coupled with Reach to do some damage to my opponent's tank.
3rd position - Mushroom Seer - Silence paired with the Mustang's void will help to nullify a lot of magic attackers.
4th position - Wood Nymph - A healer to heal the tanks for whatever damage they receive.
5th position - Goblin Psychic - A slow healer for even more healing.
6th position - Suidae Shaman - A card I don't use often but it does offer some decent health as well as triple damage.
When I saw my opponent's lineup, this was definitely going to go in my favor although it wasn't ideal because of his mushroom seer. Otherwise, I was in a strong position.
Looking at my opponent's lineup, I know this was going to be a good battle, because I went with Thorns to thwart my opponent. He had gone with an almost all melee lineup, which plays into my hands. His Gobson would be a wild card, though.
The battle was effectively over by the second round. Once I had taken out my opponent's Mustang, Prismatic Energy and Mushroom Seer, with all my units intact. This mean I still had the Void Armor absorbing pretty much all the magic damage and my units were now free to do lots more damage.
Coupled with healing and thorns, my opponent didn't stand much of a chance. Because whatever damage he did got undone by healing and he was taking damage by thorns, with no respite.
Eventually, victory was mine and you can catch a replay of the entire battle here: https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_38f53f0f24fb39b4408f4916a9b903ed&ref=charcoalbuffet
