Winter silhouettes
Climate is one of the elements of nature that does not escape change. There are geographic zones where the climatic seasons are marked, and the landscape is an irrefutable example.
I invite you to read this post to see some magical pics.
In wintertime, cold air masses cause a lot of fog, drizzle, and even snow. It is a whole set of atmospheric changes that make the rays of sunlight weak.
The cold and the little sunlight transform the colors of the elements of nature. The sky and vegetation become opaque and with shades of cold colors.
Throughout the day, the sky tones are grayish. Sometimes it seems that behind the little visible vegetation, only inhabit nothingness.
In winter, it is rare to see animals in the forest as often as in spring or summer. However, some birds are brave and come out of their nests to look for food. The survival instinct is stronger than the inclement weather.
In some areas of the forest, there are still some bushes with leaves, but their green color has changed. It is not as intense and vivid as in summer.
In this mountain area, it is common to see these crow-like birds. When these birds come to my window to eat rice grains, I used to call them small crows, but they are smaller birds often confused with the European crow. The scientific name of these birds is Quiscalus lugubris, and they are native to the West Indies and the Caribbean.
Perhaps you are wondering how is this type of winter landscape possible in the Caribbean. Believe it or not, there are forested areas over two thousand meters above sea level where the temperatures are 12ºC. Although it does not snow, the climate maintains low temperatures, and the days are gray, with little light.
To take good photos, you need a good light environment. At least, this is a fundamental element when not taking pics with a professional camera. Nevertheless, I did not waste the opportunity to take some pictures with my cell phone. The result was some wonderful images of birds as if they were silhouettes painted on the branches of the trees.
Although they look like black and white photos, believe me, they are images taken only with the natural light of the forest. The contrast of the dark plumage of these birds with the gray of the sky allows you to see the beak and slender legs of these small feathered birds.
Oh yes, the weaving of its branches gives it a very particular aspect. The free space between branch and branch lets part of the sky through. You can appreciate branches so thin that they look like threads.
However, nature has its mysteries, and sometimes birds can be the perfect complement to solitary branches in a winter landscape.
Of all the photos I took, this one is my favorite. I find it poetic to see that single bird on the branch calmly observing the gray sky.
When I started photographing this branch, there were only a couple of birds, but little by little, many arrived until they adorned every branch. I felt they were posing for me.
It is likely that if I had intended to take nature photographs in black and white, I would not have found the ideal landscape. But nature is amazing. It surprises you with unexpected landscapes!
Yes, you can find beauty anywhere! You just have to observe through an open mind to enjoy those magical and unrepeatable moments that nature gives us.

These are beautiful words @jlufer . I am blessed to live surrounded by nature. I like to share my experiences so that many are encouraged to be more in contact with natural places, far from the concrete.
Thanks for stopping by. Happy holidays! 🎄
The good thing about promoting nature through our publications is that more and more people are spending more time in natural environments.
Enjoy your vacation days
