Seeing these images today, made me remember the wonderful years I spent when I worked in the Tourist Brigade of the Metropolitan Police, as the name says we were guardians of the security of tourist sites and therefore of all the people who visited these places, whether domestic or foreign tourists.
And what a pity that at that time this house was not yet open to the public, as a museum or cultural house because it would surely be one of my favorite places to work.

Ver estas imágenes hoy, me hizo recordar los años maravillosos que pasé cuando trabajaba en la Brigada Turística de la Policía Metropolitana, como su nombre lo dice éramos guardianes de la seguridad delos sitios turísticos y por ende de toda la población que visitara estos lugares, ya sea turista nacional o turista extranjero.

Y que lastima que en ese tiempo esta casa no estuviese aún abierta al público, como museo o casa cultural porque de seguro seria unan de mis favoritas para trabajar.

As you can see my work was not so hard because I always worked in beautiful places like the Teatro Teresa Carreño, the birthplace of the Liberator, the park "El Calvario", museums and more.

But in short, from all that, I still liked to visit and get to know places like this. That is why today with deep emotion I come to tell you *the second part of my visit to "La Casona Cultural Aquiles Nazoa" or former Presidential Residence.

Como ven mi trabajo no era tan duro ya que siempre trabajaba en sitios bonitos como el Teatro teresa Carreño, la casa natal del Libertador, el parque “El calvario” Museos y más.

Pero en fin, de todo aquello me quedó el gusto por visitar y conocer sitios como éste. Por eso hoy con profunda emoción les vengo a contar *la segunda parte de mi visita a “La Casona Cultural Aquiles Nazoa” o antigua Residencia presidencial.

This great house is located in the lower part of Los Dos Caminos, at the end of La Carlota Avenue, very close to Los Dos Caminos subway station in Caracas.

The house is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. On Saturdays and Sundays there are cultural events, craft workshops, yoga, artisan fair and much more.

Esta gran casa está ubicada en la parte baja de los dos caminos, al final de la avenida La carlota, muy cerca de la estación del metro Los dos caminos en Caracas.

Para visitar esta casa hay un horario de atención al público de martes a domingo de 10 de la mañana hasta las cinco de la tarde. Los sábados y domingos se realizan eventos culturales, talleres de manualidades, yoga, feria de artesanos y muchas cosas más.

When you arrive at the house you can get a very large parking lot that is in the areas in front of the house. It is really very well organized. I imagine that it was designed this way since it is common for the president to receive delegations or to hold events, parties, among others.

To one side of the house we got a long white wall, with huge sentry boxes where the soldiers make their rounds to guard the spaces and at the end of that street is the main entrance to the Cultural Center. There you will always get some employees of the mansion who take care of and welcome visitors.

Cuando llegas a la casona puedes conseguir un estacionamiento muy amplio que está en las áreas frente a la casa. De verdad está muy bien organizado. Me imagino que fue diseñado así ya que es común que el presidente reciba comitivas o realice eventos, fiestas, entre otros.

Hacia un costado de la casa conseguimos una pared blanca larga, con enormes garitas donde los soldados hacen sus rondas para custodiar los espacios y al fondo de esa calle esta la entrada principal para el Centro cultural. Allí siempre vas a conseguir a unos empleados de la casona que cuidan y dan la bienvenida a los visitantes.

As you pass by, you get a red brick corridor with large trees on the sides and as you enter, your eyes are amazed to see the large gardens that decorate this place.

We immediately went to see the house, a beautiful colonial style hacienda, with large columns and white walls with red ceilings. The doors and windows are large, wide and made of dark cedar wood.

Al pasar te consigues un pasillo de ladrillos rojos y grandes árboles a los lados y a medida que vas entrando tus ojos se maravillan al ver los amplios jardines que decoran este lugar.

De inmediato nos fuimos a conocer la casa, una hermosa hacienda al estilo colonial, con grandes columnas y paredes blancas con techos rojos.

The guides were very kind and told us that on Saturdays and Sundays there are three tours at 10:00 am, 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm. We waited for the two o'clock tour because we wanted to wait for the rest of the family that was on their way. In the meantime we took the opportunity to take off our shoes and demagnetize ourselves by stepping on the greenish grass and hugging the trees.

Los guías fueron muy amables y nos dijeron que los sábados y domingos se realizan tres guiaturas a las 10:00 am, 12:00 m y 2:00 de la tarde. Nosotros esperamos el recorrido de las dos porque queríamos esperar al resto de la familia que venía en camino. Mientras tanto aprovechamos de quitarnos los zapatos y desmagnetizarnos pisando la verdosa grama y abrazando los árboles.

Guidance "Part II".

Last time I told you that the first thing the guides tell us is not to touch anything and they don't allow videos or flash photography. We enter and the first thing we get is the water well; being a sugar cane plantation, the family had the economic means to have a private well where they could get the vital liquid. The other families or employees had to fetch water or had to wash or bathe in the river.

Guiatura “II parte”

La vez pasada les contaba que lo primero que nos dicen los guías es no tocar nada y tampoco permiten videos ni fotos con flash. Entramos y lo primero que conseguimos es el pozo de agua; por ser una hacienda de cultivos de caña de azúcar la familia tenía los medios económicos para tener un pozo donde privado donde poder surtirse del vital líquido. Las demás familias o empleados debían buscar agua o debían lavar o bañarse en el rio.

We continue and find the main patio of the house, for me it is definitely my favorite place, the fountain, the palms, the shade trees, the colonial style benches. I see it and I imagine myself there, embroidering, weaving next to the ladies of the time, drinking tea in porcelain tableware very Spanish style.

Seguimos y encontramos el patio principal de la casa, para mi es definitivamente mi lugar favorito, la fuente, las palmas, los árboles que dan sombra, las bancas de estilo colonial. Lo veo y me imagino allí, bordando, tejiendo al lado de las damas de la época, tomando un té en vajillas de porcelana muy del estilo español.

As we passed by, we found the first protocol room, for me the most beautiful of all the ones I saw. This space has a large painting of the famous Venezuelan painter "Arturo Michelena" and our guides tell us that in order to install the painting on that wall they had to demolish the wall on the left side to put it in and then leave everything as it was.

The painting struck me because for me it symbolizes the power of the woman who has been climbing positions and makes her way in the world despite the adversities she faces. Although it was painted a long time ago, I feel that it empowers women and reflects their warrior character, fighter, who defends to the hilt what she believes and loves. I also liked the lighting, the furniture and the large rug.

Al pasar encontramos el primer salón protocolar, para mí el más hermoso de todos los que vi. Este espacio tiene un gran cuadro del famoso pintor venezolano “Arturo Michelena” y cuentan nuestros guías que para poder instalar el cuadro en esa pared tuvieron derrumbar la pared del lado izquierdo para poder meterlo y luego dejar todo como estaba.

El cuadro me impactó ya que para mí simboliza el poderío de la mujer que viene escalando posiciones y se abre paso en el mundo a pesar de las adversidades que se le presenta. Aunque fue pintado hace mucho tiempo siento que empodera a la mujer y refleja su carácter guerrero, luchador, que defiende a capa y espada lo que cree y ama. También me gustó la iluminación, los muebles y su gran alfombra.

Just in front we got another protocol room, in these rooms was where the presidents received the visits of presidents, ministers and great personalities of the political world. It is said that the last important person to visit this room was Felipe, who at that time held the title of Prince of Asturias and is now King of Spain.

Each corner we have walked through has a variety of objects of the time and also modern objects, which are mixed together, without sabotaging each other, or altering the harmony of the atmosphere or decoration.

Justo en frente conseguimos otro salón protocolar, en estos salones era donde los presidentes recibían las visitas de presidentes, ministros y grandes personalidades del mundo político. Cuentan que el último personaje importante en pisar este salón fue Felipe, el que aquel tiempo llevaba el título de príncipe de Asturias y ahora es Rey de España.

Cada rincón que hemos recorrido tiene una variedad de objetos de la época y también objetos modernos, que se mezclan entre sí, sin sabotearse el uno con el otro, ni alterar la armonía del ambiente o la decoración.

Now they want to direct the look to the main dining room, a huge room where more than 30 people were seated, with imposing crystal chandeliers and a mirror that gave brightness and more lighting to the place, definitely that room took 20 points in decoration. The walls of this dining room had 3 large paintings symbolizing the seasons of the year. The guides say that there are 4 paintings but it is not known for sure where the one of the winter season is located. It is presumed that it was taken to Miraflores, but the truth is that I did not understand how a collection that should be together has been separated in this way and that nobody knows where it is, it is absurd.

Ahora quieren dirigir la mirada al comedor principal, un enorme salón donde se sentaban más de 30 personas, con imponentes lámparas de cristal y un espejo que daba brillo y más iluminación al lugar, definitivamente ese salón se llevaba 20 puntos en decoración. Las paredes de este comedor tenían 3 cuadros de gran tamaño que simbolizaban las estaciones del año. Cuentan los guías que son 4 cuadros pero no se sabe a ciencia cierta donde se encuentra el de la estación invierno. Se presume que fue llevado a Miraflores, pero la verdad es que no entendí como una colección que debe estar junta haya sido separada de esa manera y que nadie sepa donde esta es un absurdo.

We continue moving forward and between corridors we can see offices, libraries, the dining room for family use decorated with oil paintings on food and also other more sober and simple protocol rooms.

Seguimos avanzando y entre pasillos podemos ver oficinas, bibliotecas, el comedor de uso familiar decorado con cuadros de óleo sobre comida y también otros salones de protocolo más sobrios y sencillos.

We continue moving forward and we find what everyone wants to see, this is the area where it was most common to see President Chavez who was the last president to inhabit this place with his family.

Towards this wing of the house there is an office, a library, right next to it a large room called the ministerial room, this is where the presidents met with the executive cabinet and made great decisions for the country.

Seguimos avanzando y encontramos l que todo el mundo quiere ver, se trata del área donde era más común ver al presidente Chávez quien fuera el último presidente en habitar este lugar con su familia.

Hacia esta ala de la casa se encuentra una oficina, una biblioteca, justo al lado un salón amplio que tiene por nombre salón de ministros, acá era donde los presidentes se reunían con el gabinete ejecutivo y se tomaban grandes definiciones para el país.

From the ministerial hall I can tell you that there is the painting "Los Causahabientes" of the painter Tito salas, this would be the last painting that this distinguished artist painted at the age of 82 years; according to the guides told us it was thanks to a request that the then president Rafael Caldera made to him. This artistic piece gathers all the presidents of the IX century and others.

They also told us that to make such a large painting they had to condition the space so that the master Tito salas could work in peace, meaning that the painting has never been moved from that place.

Del salón ministerial les puedo contar que existe el cuadro “Los Causahabientes” del pintor Tito salas, este sería el último cuadro que pinto este insigne artista a la edad de 82 años; según nos comentaron los guías fue gracias a una petición que le hizo el entonces presidente Rafael Caldera.

En esta pieza artística se reúnen todos los presidentes del siglo IX y otros más. También nos contaron que para realizar ese cuadro tan grande tuvieron que acondicionar el espacio para que el maestro Tito salas trabajara tranquilo, quiere decir que ese cuadro jamás ha sido movido de ese lugar.

Right next to this great hall we can see President Chavez's room and they say that it is just as he left it. The truth is that I expected something more but it looks like a normal, simple room with a double bed, a dressing room, a bathroom, a mini desk and a TV.

At first glance it looks simple but the truth is that the walls were reinforced, a door was opened to the patio so that the president could enter and leave the house faster. Bullet proof curtains were also installed, the truth is that this part leaves all visitors with their mouths open.

Justo al lado de este gran salón podemos ver la habitación del presidente Chávez y dicen que esta tal cual la dejo. La verdad esperaba algo más pero se ve una habitación normal, sencilla con una cama matrimonial, un vestidor baño, un mini escritorio y un televisor.

A simple vista se ve sencilla pero la verdad es que sus paredes fueron reforzadas, se abrió una puerta al patio para que el presidente pudiera entrar y salir más rápido de la casa. También fueron instaladas cortinas antibalas, la verdad es que esa parte si nos deja a todos los visitantes con la boca abierta.

As far as I could tell, Chavez slept alone and I believe he only dedicated himself to work. Finally, they tell us that Chavez did not sleep here every night and when he was going to stay here he would tell his family in advance so that they would wait for him.

Por lo que pude notar Chávez dormía solo y creo que se dedicaba solamente a trabajar. Por ultimo nos cuentan que Chávez no dormía aquí todas las noches y cuando se iba a quedar mandaba avisar con antelación a su familia para que lo esperaran.

Finally we are invited to go to the last protocol room, here there are beautiful artistic pieces, especially I liked a clock that belonged to Napoleon, a painting of the map of Venezuela made with wooden shells and three paintings of the famous artist Manuel Cabré, painter of the Avila (Caracas mountain).

Ya para finalizar nos invitan a pasar al último salón protocolar, aquí hay piezas artísticas hermosas, sobre todo me gusto un reloj que pertenecía a Napoleón, un cuadro del mapa de Venezuela hecho con conchas de madera y tres cuadros del famoso artista Manuel Cabré, pintor del Ávila (montaña caraqueña).

Here ends the tour, I really liked the house and everything it contains, its history, its works, but I would have liked to know more things, I think the guides fall short in the explanation and details.

Aquí termina el recorrido, de verdad me gustó la casa y todo lo que contiene, su historia, sus obras, pero me hubiese gustado saber más cosas, creo que los guías se quedan cortos en la explicación y en los detalles.
