“Año nuevo, aventuras nuevas”

Con este pensamiento quiero abrir el año 2025 seguro de que habrá muchos sitios increíbles para pasear, conocer, disfrutar, recorrer. Ya sea sola o acompañada, en familia o con amigos, como sea que Dios me presente las oportunidades este año quiero tomarlas todas.

La vida se hizo para ser serio y responsable ¡Es verdad! Pero tambièn Jesús nos enseñó que hay momentos para pasarla bien y divertirse sanamente, sin excesos. ¿Y ustedes dirán? ¿Por qué carolina mete a Jesús en esto? Pues porque Jesús convirtió el agua en vino para que la fiesta pudiera continuar.

“New year, new adventures”

With this thought I want to open the year 2025 sure that there will be many incredible places to walk, to know, to enjoy, to tour. Whether alone or accompanied, with family or friends, however God presents me with opportunities this year I want to take them all.

Life was made to be serious and responsible, it's true! But Jesus also taught us that there are moments to have a good time and to have fun in a healthy way, without excesses. Why does Carolina bring Jesus into this? Well, because Jesus turned the water into wine so that the party could continue.

Desde que cumplí mis cincuenta años solo he tenido un pensamiento ¡disfrutar mi vida! Y es que no todo puede ser trabajo y trabajo. Tambien este cuerpo merece distracción, descanso, relax.

Y que mejor que hacerlo viajando, distrayendo la mente, conociendo lugares que jamás hayas visitado, comiendo ricos platos de cada lugar, conociendo gente linda que hay regada por el mundo.

Since I turned fifty I have had only one thought: to enjoy my life! Because not everything can be work and work. This body also deserves distraction, rest, relaxation.

And what better way to do it than traveling, distracting the mind, knowing places you have never visited, eating delicious dishes from each place, meeting beautiful people that are scattered around the world.

Con ese propósito en mente, más afianzado que nunca en mis entrañas inicio este año con un paseo increíble por las hermosas tierras andinas del Estado Táchira.

With that purpose in mind, more entrenched than ever in my gut, I start this year with an incredible ride through the beautiful Andean lands of the state of Tachira.

Después de 10 años sin poder salir a pasear por diversos motivos, principalmente la falta de combustible en este estado fronterizo de Venezuela, hemos decidido retomar el paseo anual que hacemos en familia por algún rincón tachirense.

Y quisimos empezar por el precioso pueblo de La Grita, un lugar encantador, acogedor, con lindos paisajes llenos de sembradíos de todo tipo.

After 10 years without being able to go for a ride for various reasons, mainly the lack of fuel in this border state of Venezuela, we have decided to resume the annual walk that we do as a family through some corner of Tachira.

And we wanted to start with the beautiful town of La Grita, a charming, cozy place, with beautiful landscapes full of crops of all kinds.

La Grita es sin lugar a dudas el principal productor de hortalizas que abastece todo el paìs, desde el verde cilantro hasta la increíble papa. Frutas de todo tipo, ricas fresas, piñas, duraznos, tomate de árbol, entre otros.

Pero hay algo que tiene la grita que no tiene otro pueblo el milagroso “Santo cristo de La Grita”

La Grita is undoubtedly the main producer of vegetables that supplies the whole country, from the green coriander to the incredible potato. Fruits of all kinds, delicious strawberries, pineapples, peaches, tree tomatoes, among others.

But there is something that La Grita has that no other town has, the miraculous “Santo Cristo de La Grita” (Holy Christ of La Grita).

Desde que aprendemos hablar los niños del Táchira se asoma en nuestros labios su nombre y para siempre nos encomendamos a èl en todo momento.

A Santo Cristo de la Grita he implorado muchísimas veces y siempre mis suplicas han sido escuchadas. El más reciente milagro que recibí fue la recuperación de mi esposo quien estuvo grave en el hospital Vargas de Caracas, rogué tanto por su recuperación que al verlo sano a mi lado no puedo dejar de agradecer a Dios por tan increíble milagro.

Since we learn to speak the children of Táchira his name appears on our lips and we always entrust ourselves to him at all times.

I have prayed to Santo Cristo de la Grita many times and my prayers have always been heard. The most recent miracle I received was the recovery of my husband who was seriously ill in the Vargas Hospital in Caracas, I prayed so much for his recovery that when I saw him healthy by my side I can not stop thanking God for such an incredible miracle.

Solo cuando tienes una necesidad de esta magnitud entiendes lo misericordioso que es Dios y por eso siempre cuento esta historia, para que todo el mundo sepa que cuando acudes a Dios y te refugias en sus brazos èl nunca te desampara.

Así pues arrancamos el 3 de enero rumbo a la Grita, no solo a pagar la promesa a santo Cristo sino tambien para conocer su nueva iglesia o santuario.

Only when you have a need of this magnitude do you understand how merciful God is and that is why I always tell this story, so that everyone knows that when you go to God and take refuge in his arms he never forsakes you.

So we set off on January 3rd to La Grita, not only to pay the promise to Santo Cristo but also to get to know his new church or sanctuary.

Ese día nadie quiso desayunar en casa, ya todos sabemos que en la grita venden los mejores pasteles y chicha de todas. Llegamos a eso de las 9:30 directo a conocer el santuario que está ubicado en toda la entrada del pueblo. Solo les puedo decir que fue una experiencia de otro mundo porque desde que entras a ese esplendido lugar se respira paz.

That day nobody wanted to have breakfast at home, we all know that in La Grita they sell the best cakes and chicha of all. We arrived at about 9:30 a.m. to visit the sanctuary that is located at the entrance of the town. I can only tell you that it was an experience from another world because from the moment you enter this splendid place you breathe peace.

El santuario está rodeado de montañas, desde cualquier punto cardinal puedes ver las laderas revestidas de frailejón y se siente el frio clima que penetra la piel.

The sanctuary is surrounded by mountains, from any cardinal point you can see the slopes covered with frailejón and feel the cold weather that penetrates the skin.

En la entrada del santuario se encuentra uno de los famosos murales elaborado por el artista Olivares quien con miles de tapas de envases plásticos diseño la hermosa imagen del santo patrono.
Luego seguimos avanzando por entre los jardines y observamos los hermosos murales artísticos que denotan el buen cuidado o el amor que sienten por este lugar.

At the entrance of the sanctuary is one of the famous murals made by the artist Olivares who with thousands of plastic bottle caps designed the beautiful image of the patron saint.
Then we continue advancing through the gardens and we observe the beautiful artistic murals that denote the good care or love that they feel for this place.

El santuario fue elaborado a petición de la comunidad que ya pedían un lugar más amplio donde poder acudir cada 6 de Agosto cuando se hace la misa en honor al santo. Y es que la catedral donde se encuentra resguardado la imagen desde hace más de 400 años ya se quedaba pequeña ante la multitud que asiste ese día a pagar las promesas por milagros concedidos.

The sanctuary was built at the request of the community who were already asking for a larger place where they could go every August 6th when the mass is held in honor of the saint. The cathedral where the image has been kept for more than 400 years was already too small for the multitude that attends that day to pay the promises for the miracles granted.

Luego de visitar el santuario subimos por la avenida principal y llegamos a la catedral para visitar la imagen de Cristo.

Para los que no saben de su historia me gustaria contarles un poco.

After visiting the sanctuary we went up the main avenue and arrived at the cathedral to visit the image of Christ.

For those who do not know its history, I would like to tell you a little about it.

𝕊𝕒𝕟𝕥𝕠 ℂ𝕣𝕚𝕤𝕥𝕠 𝕕𝕖 𝕝𝕒 𝔾𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕒

Cuentan que en 1610 hubo un terrible terremoto por estos valles que destruyo la ciudad; por esos lados existía una cofradía de humildes frailes que decidieron mudarse de lugar y construir nuevamente su parroquia, pero antes de iniciar se encomendaron al señor crucificado. Entre ellos habia un fraile que trabajaba la madera y cortó un árbol y comenzó a tallar al cristo en la cruz. Dicen que ya llevaba tiempo elaborando la imagen menos el rostro y cuando ya estaba a punto de abandonar el proyecto decidió esa noche ponerse a orar. Como si fuera un cuento de hadas el fraile cayó en un profundo sueño y al despertar escucho las herramientas de trabajo sonar. Dice la historia que en aquella habitación habia un ángel tallando el rostro del Santo y desde entonces toda la fe y devoción se ha propagado por todo el paìs y el mundo.

𝕊𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕥 ℂ𝕙𝕣𝕚𝕤𝕥 𝕠𝕗 𝕃𝕒 𝔾𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕒

They say that in 1610 there was a terrible earthquake in these valleys that destroyed the city; on those sides there was a brotherhood of humble friars who decided to move and build their parish again, but before starting they entrusted themselves to the crucified Lord. Among them was a friar who worked with wood and cut down a tree and began to carve the Christ on the cross. It is said that he had been working on the image for some time, except for the face, and when he was about to abandon the project, he decided to pray that night. As if it were a fairy tale, the friar fell into a deep sleep and when he woke up he heard the work tools rattling. The story goes that in that room there was an angel carving the face of the Saint and since then all the faith and devotion has spread throughout the country and the world.

Pues bien, ir a ese lugar te hace sentir bendecido por Dios y estar allí pagando la promesa junto a mi esposo es definitivamente la mayor prueba de su amor.

Salimos de allí con profunda alegría y paz y como es costumbre nos fuimos directo al mercado popular a comer pasteles con la tradicional chicha o el famoso masato. Comimos todos, de verdad que estaban bien sabrosos.

Well, going to that place makes you feel blessed by God and being there paying the promise with my husband is definitely the greatest proof of his love.

We left there with deep joy and peace and as usual we went straight to the popular market to eat cakes with the traditional chicha or the famous masato.We ate them all, they were really tasty.

Ya era cas medio día y el clima estaba húmedo, asi que nos fuimos a recorrer las calles antes de que comenzara a llover. Mi esposo y su familia vivieron aquí muchos años asi que como es costumbre fuimos a visitar algunos amigos y conocer la casa donde ellos pasaron los mejores años de infancia.

No podíamos irnos del centro sin antes pasar por la panadería de la esquina y comprar a las ricas almojábanas, un pan en bolitas hecho a base de queso.

It was almost noon and the weather was humid, so we went to walk the streets before it started to rain.My husband and his family lived here for many years so as usual we went to visit some friends and see the house where they spent the best years of their childhood.

We couldn't leave downtown without first stopping by the bakery on the corner and buying the delicious almojábanas, a bread in little balls made with cheese.

Visitar la grita y no comprar bebidas espirituosas o mejor conocido como el popular Miche (hecho con un aparato llamado alambique a base de caña de azúcar) desde que llegas vas probando y probando y sales de allí más alegre de lo que entraste.

Pero esa parte la vamos a dejar para el próximo post donde les estaré contando más de la grita y su historia, sus fríos paramos e increíbles paisajes.

Visiting the grita and not buying spirits or better known as the popular Miche (made with an apparatus called alembic based on sugar cane) since you arrive you go tasting and tasting and you leave there happier than you entered.

But let's leave that part for the next post where I will be telling you more about the grita and its history, its cold paramos and incredible landscapes.
