Hello everyone! Today I bring a new article, this time, dedicated to one of the most beautiful places in Venezuela, Colonia Tovar. So let's get to it, let's start!
¡Hola a todos! El día de hoy traigo un nuevo artículo, esta vez, dedicado a uno de los lugares más hermosos de Venezuela, la Colonia Tovar. Así que vamos a ello ¡Comencemos!
Colonia Tovar is located in the state of Aragua, one hour from La Victoria. It was founded some years ago by a group of German immigrants, who decided to stay in the area and establish a small town where consciously or unconsciously, they would form one of the best tourist resorts in Venezuela. All thanks to the excellent temperate climate (due to its altitude), the inhabitants and the goodness that this land generates.
In 2015, I made a trip with my family to know for the first time this beautiful place. We moved from Valencia (Carabobo City) to Aragua. The estimated time of arrival is two hours. The journey becomes vertiginous as you go along since the place is located in a mountain range (Cordillera de la Costa) and its mountainous characteristic makes it a bit difficult to cross, especially because of its slopes and ravines. Also, the fog in the morning and afternoon can make it difficult to drive through. You should be very cautious when driving.
La Colonia Tovar se encuentra ubicada en el estado Aragua, a una hora de la Victoria. Fue fundada hace algunos años por un grupo de inmigrantes alemanes, quienes decidieron quedarse en la zona y establecer una pequeña ciudad donde conscientes o inconscientemente, formarían uno de los mejores turísticos de Venezuela. Todo gracias al excelente clima templado (debido a su altura), los habitantes y las bondades que está tierra genera.
En el año 2015, realice un viaje junto a mi familia para conocer por primera vez este hermoso lugar. Nos trasladamos desde Valencia (Ciudad de Carabobo) hasta Aragua. El tiempo estimado de llegada es de dos horas. El trayecto se vuelve vertiginoso conforme se avanza puesto que el lugar se encuentra en una cordillera (Cordillera de la Costa) y su característica montañosa la hace un poco difícil de atravesar sobre todo por sus pendientes y quebradas. También la neblina de la mañana y la tarde, puede dificultar el tránsito. Se debe tener mucha precaución al manejar.
When we arrived, the first thing we did was to take some pictures of some buildings and the typical chalets, which is the architecture par excellence that we will find throughout the place. Then we visited each sector where they sold some typical products; alcoholic beverages, fried food, vegetables, sausages, preserves and other things. That month was celebrating the Oktoberfest, a German festival where craft beers are produced and it is the time of the year where more visitors come to taste the drinks. Here I leave a picture where I was drinking a beer, I don't remember right now what fruit it was made with.
Other things you can do besides buying souvenirs is to go into some of the restaurants to enjoy a good hot meal. I chose a dish that had beef in oyster sauce, mashed potatoes and salad. My sister and brother-in-law had something more typical like sausages and some other contours. For dessert we went down to another place for strawberries and cream, strawberry tartlets and whipped cream, along with hot chocolate. When we arrived it was not so cold (around noon) but as the night fell the typical moor weather started to set in.
Cuando llegamos, lo primero que hicimos fue tomar algunas fotografías de algunas edificaciones y los típico chalets, que es la arquitectura por excelencia que encontraremos en todo el lugar. Luego fuimos visitando cada sector donde vendían algunos productos típicos; bebidas alcohólicas, fritas, hortalizas, embutidos, conservas y otras cosas más. Ese mes se estaba celebrando el Oktoberfest, un festival alemán dónde se producen cervezas artesanales y es el momento del año dónde más visitantes acuden para probar las bebidas. Aquí dejo una fotografía dónde tomaba una cerveza, ahorita mismo no recuerdo con que fruta estaba hecha.
Otras cosas que puedes hacer además de comprar souvenirs es entrar ha algunos de los restaurantes para disfrutar de una buena comida caliente. Elegí un platillo que traía carne en salsa de ostras, puré y ensalada. Mi hermana y cuñado si pudieron algo más típico como los embutidos y algunos otros contornos. Cómo postre bajamos hacia otro local para comer unas fresas con crema, tartaletas de fresa y crema batida, junto con chocolate caliente. Cuando llegamos no hacía tanto frío (alrededor del mediodía) pero conforme la noche fue cayendo empezó a sentirse el típico clima de páramo.
It is important to know a few things. If you do not intend to stay in a hostel for the night, it is good to leave at a good time because going down the steep and foggy road at night is not the best decision. If, on the other hand, you decide to stay, you should consider making a reservation since in high season it is usually crowded and it would not be pleasant to spend the night outdoors. Also, be cautious with alcohol consumption if you are the one who will be driving. Some last tips would be to wear warm clothes but also a cool one underneath because it may not be cold that day and you will end up sweating, as well as good footwear since you have to walk a lot and the roads are steep.
Finally, I can't leave without telling you that there are many other activities you can participate in in Colonia Tovar, such as paragliding, 4x4 tours through the rustic areas of the place, mountain climbing and depending on the season you can enjoy some typical festivities. Es importante saber algunas cosas. Si no pretendes quedarte en una hostal a pasar la noche, es bueno retirarse a buena hora pues bajar de noche por la carretera tan inclinada y con neblina, no es la mejor de las decisiones. Sí por el contrario decides quedarte debes evaluar hacer una reservación ya que en temporada alta, suele estar abarrotado de gente y no sería agradable pasar la noche a la intemperie. También consumir con prudencia alcohol si eres quien va a manejar. Algunos últimos consejos serían llevar ropa abrigada pero también una fresca debajo pues puede que no haya frío ese día y termines sudando, así como un buen calzado ya que hay que caminar bastante y los caminos son inclinados.
Finalmente, no me puedo ir sin antes decirles que hay un sin fin de actividades más en las que puedes participar en la Colonia Tovar, tales como parapente, recorrido en 4x4 por las zonas rústicas del lugar, alpinismo y dependiendo de la temporada disfrutar de algunas fiestas típicas. Una de las cosas que mas extrañamos de Venezuela es ir a la Colonia Tovar, fuimos en varias oportunidades pero siempre quedábamos con ganas de regresar y pasear por esas lindas calles, el clima es de lo mejor. Se ve que la pasaste super cool y disfrutaste. ¡Saludos!
