My thoughts on Modern Gold League 2/1/24
Good afternoon my friends!
Let me take a moment to type up a short bit about Modern Gold League and give my feedback on the Meta.
My collection consists of:
Max Level CL Deck
Max Level RW Deck [Missing: Sea Wreck (11), Inevitable (11), Immolation (11), Coeurl Lurker (5), Ilthain (32)]
Fairly Low Level RB Deck
Most Promos: Key Missing Promos GrimSmith (115), Oshuur (11), Mantaroth (10)
Soulbound: Missing most Soulbound Cards and have very few over L1/L2
Gladiator: Have a decent selection BUT REFUSE TO PLAY THEM IN RANKED. I don't believe they should be in Ranked, so I don't play them (unless in "Are You Not Entertained" ruleset)
With that being said - I topped out at Gold I last season and struggled at the end to push to Diamond.
Since the start of the current season, I have struggled to push into Gold II.
What I have learned:
Gladiators aren't quite as broken and op as in Bronze but they still suck.
There are some REALLY GOOD Soulbound cards.
The Meta is much more diverse than Bronze and Silver although there are some key archetypes.
Opinion:
Gold is FAR greater in both Rewards and FUN than Bronze and Gladiators are less of a threat (most of the time)
I really enjoy playing in Gold and seeing most of the abilities these cards have
I reaaaally need to get those Soulbound Reward Cards & RW/RB 😒
I take my fair share of L's but often I believe my games are decided by these factors:
Skill
Disparity in Card Level, esp RB and the SBRCs
Gladiators
Funky RNG
With that being said, it has reinforced my opinion that Gladiators need to be pulled from the Ranked Battles and will be extremely detrimental to the NPE.
I look forward to this season and hope to finish in Diamond.
