"Men of honor": una gran historia de esfuerzo y perseverancia (Reseña) [Es-En]

Saludos amigos de esta maravillosa comunidad Movies and TV Shows. En esta oportunidad les traigo una reseña sobre la película “Men of honor”. Espero que sea de mucho agrado para todos.

Basada en hechos reales, “Men of honor” nos habla sobre la fascinante historia de Carl Brashear, un hombre que desde muy pequeño ya soñaba con algo grande en su vida: servir nada más y nada menos que en la marina de los Estados Unidos, tomando así un camino que no será fácil en lo absoluto y que probará lo que es capaz de hacer una persona con tal de luchar y alcanzar lo que desea.

La película se ubica en una etapa de la historia de la humanidad en la que el prejuicio y el racismo están tan arraigados a la sociedad que parece un crimen ser una persona de color y querer entrar siquiera a una farmacia. Ante un ambiente tan hostil, Carl se labra un camino de perseverancia y coraje, uno que al final lo llevará a su anhelado destino pero no sin antes pasar por una serie de eventualidades que pondrán a prueba sus deseos de cumplir sus sueños.

Based on true events, "Men of Honor" tells the fascinating story of Carl Brashear, a man who from a very young age dreamed of something big in his life: serving in the United States Navy, taking a path that will not be easy at all and that will prove what a person is capable of doing in order to fight and achieve what he wants.

The film is set in a stage of human history in which prejudice and racism are so deeply rooted in society that it seems a crime to be a person of color and even want to enter a drugstore. Faced with such a hostile environment, Carl carves a path of perseverance and courage, one that will eventually lead him to his desired destination, but not before going through a series of eventualities that will test his desire to fulfill his dreams.

Y es así como la vida de nuestro personaje se cruza con un instructor de programa llamado Billy Sunday, un hombre arrogante, amargado y alcohólico que se cree un dios y está dispuesto a hacerles la vida imposible a los nuevos aspirantes de la marina, pero en especial a Carl. Y es así como desde el mismo principio la historia de estos dos hombres se entrelazan en una dura pugna que terminará en uno de los finales más impresionantes que se pueda conocer en la pantalla grande.

El escenario de toda esta historia gira en torno a la base naval americana, dejándonos ver muy de cerca todo lo relacionado con el entrenamiento de buzos y de las altas normas de conducta y disciplina que se espera de aquellos que desean enfilarse en las fuerzas armadas de este país. Si ya de por sí la diferencia de rango influye en el trato hacia los más nuevos, imagínate todo lo que le espera a Carl por ser negro y pertenecer a una familia bastante pobre y subestimada.

And that is how the life of our character crosses paths with a program instructor named Billy Sunday, an arrogant, bitter and alcoholic man who thinks he is a god and is willing to make life impossible for the new navy aspirants, but especially for Carl. And so it is that from the very beginning the story of these two men are intertwined in a tough fight that will end in one of the most impressive endings that can be known on the big screen.

The setting of this story revolves around the American naval base, giving us a very close look at everything related to the training of divers and the high standards of conduct and discipline expected of those who wish to join the armed forces of this country. If the difference in rank already influences the treatment of newcomers, imagine all that awaits Carl for being black and belonging to a rather poor and underestimated family.

Cuba Gooding Jr encarna el papel de Carl, un hombre que desde siempre estuvo claro con lo que quería hacer con su vida, con la disposición y la convicción de querer alcanzar la meta de cualquier manera y demostrando que incluso ante las peores desgracias que puede sufrir una persona siempre habrá una razón para no rendirse.

Pero si hablamos de actuación magistral, Robert de Niro cumple a cabalidad con el personaje de Billy Sunday, una persona cruel, cegado también por el racismo y con ínfulas de grandeza que lo llevarán a caer hasta lo más bajo debido a su carácter y su dependencia al alcohol.

Cuba Gooding Jr. plays the role of Carl, a man who has always been clear about what he wanted to do with his life, with the willingness and conviction to reach the goal in any way and demonstrating that even in the face of the worst misfortunes a person can suffer, there will always be a reason not to give up.

But if we are talking about a masterful performance, Robert de Niro is a master in the character of Billy Sunday, a cruel person, also blinded by racism and with pretensions of grandeur that will lead him to fall to the lowest due to his character and his dependence on alcohol.

La historia entre Carl y Billy nos dejará un sinfín de enseñanza al ver como dos historias totalmente desiguales y rasgadas se unirán para darnos una verdadera lección de vida. Detrás de estos dos hombres, también habrá dos mujeres, Gwen Sunday, la esposa de Billy, y Jo, una bibliotecaria que Carl conoce mientras buscaba ayuda para sus estudios en la marina.

La primera vez que vi esta película fue durante un viaje de Ciudad Bolívar a Maracay, y recuerdo que mi primera impresión fue muy grande pero a la vez frustrante porque no sabía cómo se llamaba la película. Pase como una semana tratando de encontrarla hasta que por fin pude dar con ella y verla nuevamente pero ahora en la comodidad de mi hogar. Desde ese entonces esta ha sido una de las películas que más he visto y por la cual hasta pagaría para verla nuevamente pero en el cine.

The story between Carl and Billy will leave us with endless teachings as we see how two totally unequal and torn stories will come together to give us a real life lesson. Behind these two men, there will also be two women, Gwen Sunday, Billy's wife, and Jo, a librarian that Carl meets while looking for help for his studies in the navy.

The first time I saw this movie was during a trip from Ciudad Bolivar to Maracay, and I remember that my first impression was great but at the same time frustrating because I didn't know what the movie was called. I spent about a week trying to find it until I was finally able to find it and watch it again but now in the comfort of my home. Since then this has been one of the movies I have seen the most and for which I would even pay to see it again but in the theater.

Al pensar en todas esas cosas que nos enseña esta película, lo primero que viene a mi mente es esta frase: “Nadie está destinado al fracaso”. Carl Brashear es un digno ejemplo de lo que es nunca renunciar a tus sueños sea cual sea el obstáculo que se pueda atravesar en tu camino. Para llegar al éxito se necesita valor y coraje, esa clase de perseverancia que se siente por lo que amas y quieres ser en la vida.

Otra de mis reflexiones es que no existe rango alguno que esté por encima del honor, y eso es lo que en el caso de Billy Sunday se va ajustando a través de la historia. Más allá del odio y los prejuicios, siempre habrá una fuerza que nos impulsará hacia adelante, y debemos tener claro que los obstáculos están allí, no para detenernos, sino para hacernos cada vez mejores personas.

When thinking about all those things this movie teaches us, the first thing that comes to my mind is this phrase: "No one is destined to fail". Carl Brashear is a worthy example of what it means to never give up on your dreams no matter what obstacles may come your way. To reach success takes courage and grit, that kind of perseverance you feel for what you love and want to be in life.

Another of my reflections is that there is no rank that is above honor, and that is what in Billy Sunday's case is being adjusted throughout the story. Beyond hatred and prejudice, there will always be a force that will propel us forward, and we must be clear that the obstacles are there, not to stop us, but to make us better and better people.

Si estás pasando por una etapa de tu vida en la que crees que todo está contra ti, que nada te sale bien y que estás a punto de rendirte, ver esta película será como una clase de terapia que repotenciará todo lo que necesitas despertar en ti para triunfar, podrás entender lo que significa luchar por lo que quieres y verás que aunque el camino pueda verse muy grande, la recompensa que espera es aún mayor.

Cuba Gooding Jr y Robert de Niro hicieron un papel excepcional que les valió para alcanzar merecidamente el más grande de todos los galardones. No es fácil poner a estos dos excelentes actores y hacerlos brillar con la misma intensidad y sin opacarse el uno al otro, así que por eso también es encomiable la labor del director Tillman por hacer que la historia y los personajes encajaran perfectamente.

If you are going through a stage in your life when you think that everything is against you, that nothing is going right for you and that you are about to give up, watching this movie will be like a kind of therapy that will boost everything you need to awaken in you to succeed, you will understand what it means to fight for what you want and you will see that although the road may seem very long, the reward that awaits is even greater.

Cuba Gooding Jr and Robert de Niro played an exceptional role that earned them a well-deserved shot at the biggest award of all. It is not easy to put these two excellent actors and make them shine with the same intensity and without overshadowing each other, so it is also commendable the work of director Tillman for making the story and the characters fit perfectly.

“Men of honor” es una película que toca muchas cualidades tan importantes como la justicia, la perseverancia, el valor y el espíritu temerario que se necesita cultivar ante las adversidades. Son muchas las escenas que marcan esta historia, pero nada como el final que para mí es uno de los más épicos y asombrosos que se puedan describir en las páginas doradas del mundo cinematográfico.

Se dice que la grandeza de una persona se basa en algo que muchos conocemos como “Honor”, así que espero que esta magnífica película pueda ser de tu disfrute y logre potenciar en ti, eso que todos en algún momento necesitamos para jamás renunciar y así podamos seguir adelante hasta lograr el éxito.

"Men of Honor" is a film that touches on many important qualities such as justice, perseverance, courage and the reckless spirit that needs to be cultivated in the face of adversity. There are many scenes that mark this story, but nothing like the ending that for me is one of the most epic and amazing that can be described in the golden pages of the cinematic world.

It is said that the greatness of a person is based on something that many of us know as "Honor", so I hope that this magnificent film can be of your enjoyment and achieve to enhance in you, that which we all at some point need to never give up and so we can move forward to achieve success.
