Splinterlands weekly battle challenge : FLYING SQUID

Hello splinternerds

Hope you are enjoying the new update on the wild and modern ranked battles, at first i did not like the modern as i am used to the wild but after giving it a try on browarrior, i am starting to like it as i was even able to unlock 13 focus chest before it ends, the rewards were not great though but there is always another day to try!

I realize we can play both rank format for now but that won't last forever i think, probably soon or next season once a player start playing the wild then he can't play the modern till next season, that would make sense rather than being able to switch between the two format at anytime.... let see how that goes...

This week splinterlands battle is about flying squid a common chaos monster, to be honest i rarely use it in battles because it is melee with reach ability and my tactics does not really support monsters with that ability, it is either am sniping or sneaking or blasting so it does not fit in but with the new format, i think i may use it often as i have less options to select from now.....

It has a high speed of 5 at max which is favorable for monsters in battles and it also has three abilities but i love the backfire ability more as monsters with low speed find it difficult to hit it and at the end suffer the back fire damage, the reach ability is a good one too but i rarely use it as am not a fan of using reach in battles and last is the blind ability which reduces the chance of the opponent monsters hitting the monsters on its team, i didn't really believe in this ability until i started using it often and realize it indeed work...

I had a battle with sleeper12go and it was in modern format, i used the water deepswimmer and he came with the earth obsidian, i was defending myself against his range while he came with magic monsters, kinda funny!

You know that kind of disappointment you feel when the opponent did not use what you expected to use but fortunately i use a tank heal that can withstand magic attacks and the opponent also split his attacks which really helped me a great deal...

Assuming he focused on killing my tank heal, he could win the battle but instead he used a sneak attack and also his last monster was very useless, probably he guess i was going to use a sneaky monster too...

At round six, it was obvious i was going to win the battle as his last monster stand no chance against my three monsters, let see he got lucky and was able to terminate the flying squid there is no way he would be able to kill my cornealus as it can heal and also has thorns on its body which is melee attacks weakness...

The battle ends in the seventh round and i was victorious!

Great use of max level cards. It is interesting all the new stuff they get as they level up.

Not really using that on either since I'm more of a magic guy when it comes to Water Splinter. Interesting monster though!

Oh ok , I like the modern for focus chest, it is easy to use it to earn more chest due to the win rate

Hmm... I think I'll try that! I don't have that many Alpha/Beta cards so it could be a good idea in that sense too. Thanks for the tip!
