Self discovery as a Teacher
While we were still very young, most of us had a dream of who we wanted to become in life and we even calculated it in our head as to how to achieve our dreams.
As per the calculations I did back then, I would be a military doctor by now treating soldiers and other casualties at the war front, and my way of making this real is by attending a military school and passing out with flying colors but the first reality dawned on me when my Waec result came out and I failed mathematics.
As human, our mind changes along with the situation we are facing, the moment I saw my Waec result, I decided to take a rest for 1 year while my friends did G.c.e and Neco and used that to enter school, that rest I took from studies cost me a lot.
I got a job during the time I stopped pursuing education which further made me forget about schooling, the first one was a factory job which I did for 6 months before I decided to do one that is less tedious and required brain instead of physical task, so I became a teacher.
I loved teaching as a profession and I have a passion for it which made me do it for 8 years, when we have passion for a certain thing, we tend to spend more time doing it and that is what teaching is for me, I love teaching my pupils and it is a source of joy for me when the parent praise me for a job well done which further inspires me to want to do better for my pupils.
The only part I hate about the teaching job is when the student finishes my class and have to move to another, the bond I have created with them always makes me miss them for the first few weeks but the new set makes me forget them when I start getting to know them too and that way I was able to get rid of the teacher-student feelings I have for the old set.
I never realized that I was good at teaching even though the signs were always there, back in secondary school days, the other students would prefer me to explain some topics to them when there were still 5 other students better than me in the class, it was later I finally get to understand, it was because I love to break things down to the simplest form for others to grab it easily.
Taking it as a job led to my self-discovery that I was born to be a teacher, Unfortunately, I had to quit the job because aside from the honor it brings, my impact on the student life, My own personal life was stagnant, and not moving.
The pay was small and it couldn't take care of my needs, I had to take several home lessons to be able to earn more and that consumed all my time including weekends, for how long was I going to keep doing that, so I had to do something about it, I was helping others build their future while I remain stagnant in life, that is not how it should be and I realized the best thing to do was to quit!.
If teaching was a job that pays well, which could take care of me and my family, I would gladly take it as a job for life because I love teaching!

Giving up is not an option, every hustler has a payday
Don't wish for it, Make it happen
Aww that's cool. I remember when you were even teaching me about this great platform and I got it right
Teaching is very good when you find the right place to work or even teach online or so...
how time flies
yea that right place and right payment is very important, unfortunately it is hard to secure the good pays
I also love to teach and I really enjoy it very much. I think teaching is a good thing and give me a different kind of satisfaction but it's a profession of huge responsibility.
!PIZZA
yea the future of those you are teaching lies in your hand, so it is indeed a responsibility and we must do a good job
That is why it is said that we don't know what we might become until we try everything. You never knew you were this good at teaching but here you are, teaching and grooming students so well. If you had gone to that military doctor enn, a lot of students would have missed learning from a great teacher like you. Well-done 🙌 you ate doing amazingly well
lol you are also right, no regret, I have met awesome and amazing students doing the years I taught and I am happy to cross path with them
Many of us had dreams then as young lad but the world we live in today even dreams changes
you are right, we can only hope but life has a different plan for us

All kid dream when young is to become a doctor or lawyer.
Although I see teaching so fun and love it but situation warrant and which make those old dream become flawless
yea every kid has that dream but life doesn't go the way we want or plan it and sometimes we realize that is not our path
Of course, this is a good way when a person thinks about things and tries to set things by being his own teacher, then things will be set in the next time and a person does not even have to listen to the words of others and worry. Don't even have to face it.
Your journey of self-discovery and career exploration is a testament to the evolving nature of our aspirations and passions in life. Many people can relate to the childhood dreams and the initial career paths they envision for themselves, only to find that life's twists and turns lead them down a different road.
Your initial dream of becoming a military doctor reflects the ambition and determination you had as a young person. However, as life unfolded, you faced challenges, such as failing mathematics in your Waec result, which compelled you to take a different path.
The decision to take a break from education and enter the workforce, starting with a factory job and eventually becoming a teacher, is a common experience for many. Teaching became not just a job but a passion for you. The bond you formed with your students and the joy you derived from their success is a beautiful testament to your dedication.
Thanks for sharing your experiences
