My friend experience with a scammer

The rate of scams in the world is so alarming now but most victims of scams saw it coming and even have friends warning them against it but choose not to reason because of self-interest they end up ignoring all the signs.

A friend of mine was scammed, she was my gist partner so we often gist each other about our relationship.

She met this guy on Facebook who claimed to be a Nigerian who lived abroad, their conversation was flowing, and it seemed both of them liked each other and also wanted to start a relationship.

He told her that his family lives in Nigeria, his daughter lives with his mother, he doesn't have a wife anymore, and can't really remember the gist about his wife.

Two weeks later, my friend chatted me up to tell me that they were now dating and the man's mother's card got stuck in the ATM and he needed her to help send 50,000 naira to the tanker driver that supplies them water. She was seeking my advice if she should help or not.

Meanwhile, right from the start, I did not believe in online relationships, why settle for an online relationship when there are many people in your street, you go out often and see people too, you go to work and see people and you did not see any of your choices but someone you have never seen nor know where he or she lives that you will now want to date, sounds ridiculous to me and one can easily get played.

I told her not to send the money that the man was a scam, why would he ask you for help two weeks after he met you, what if he didn't meet you, Wouldn't he solve his mum's problem? my advice fell on my friend's deaf ears though, she sent the money and shortly again, the man said it would take days before the mum could get the card back and they needed to eat, she should send money to their neighbor so he could help them withdraw it, I ask her again why the neighbor can't lend them the money and why must it be you.

The guy has convinced her in a way that she believed everything was real, she did a video call with him and she saw him on a ship in the middle of the water cos he told her he was a sailor, she also talked to the mother and daughter and she was very convinced that everything was so real.

She almost convinced me too when she mentioned the video call, so I guess the man was real but still she was being scammed, she was not ready to let go, she sent 250,000 naira in total to the scammer family.

She chatted me up one day and said she had been scammed and I was right, the man scammed her, I was interested to know how she figured it out and she said she told him it seemed the scammer fell in love with her and wanted to make things real so he confessed.

The man she thought she was chatting with was not the one behind the camera and voice, it was someone else entirely, the video call of the man she saw on a ship was all edited and even the mum and child were not real, he really toyed with her feelings and brain but it was all her fault cos I warned her!

She cursed him and asked for her money, but obviously she won't be getting anything back.

But truly someone can find love anywhere, I don't fancy this online relationship cause I feel most people aren't genuine, a lot of people are living fake lives on social media, and I prefer to date someone I can see often.
Chaii so sorry your gist partner got scammed, it's very painful though, she should be very careful henceforth, cause scammers are everywhere.

I don't feel bad hearing about your friend because I think she deserves it. How someone go for a relationship without meet in real world. I don't like such kind of poor personality. She asked for you in case of sending money but didn't follow it. Doesn't it mean she wasted your time?
Online relationship is a good scamming technic in the current time. The first benefit is money and the second benefit is _____. I hope you get it already.

What an experience she had. A painful one, it would have been so good had it been she listened to you or even try telling the guy she doesn't have money to see his reaction.

But like you said, she was already in love with the guy and listening to anyone was like missing a wonderful opportunity. Although she learnt in a heart way but she will be more careful next time.

yea I tried to dissuade her from sending money and to make her realize the guy is a fraud but yea it is almost impossible to convince someone in love

Haaaa! The level at which this scam of a thing is becoming a norm. Kai! The experience your friend had is not a pleasant one. If only she listen to you then, she wouldn't have been scammed.

Hahaha. See clean scamming 🤣🤣 Just 2 weeks into dating online and he has started asking such amount of money? Wow. I am stingy oo 🤣🤣 Though I have been scammed but not with such huge amount of money. The least is 15k 🤣🤣 which I narrated some days ago. Your friend could have listened to you but dem say love is blind. Lol

I share with you the story of a friend of mine, he was a very wise person and he used to trade in such a way that he kept dollars and gave money and then kept the dollars for a while and sold them, so it was good for him. There was a profit, we all explained to him, never send money first, when the dollars are gone, then you have to send money, or else you have to do a phase-to-phase deal. He assured her that he had sent her the thousand dollars. The cameraman had not sent him the money, Then he asked that you guys are scammers, so they were laughing and saying yes, you have been scammed and then they had closed their IDs.
