Why Should I De-Age?

It is said that the older you get, the shorter your life becomes and the closer you are to your death. Age is but a measure of time a person has spent on earth and it starts reading from the instant we are born. We go through so many stages in our lives, learn so many things, and experience so many others that help us to grow.

Many times, we do things we’ll always be happy about and proud of and other times we do things that we would regret and make us wish we could turn back the hands of time. Go back to a time before we made such a decision and made sure we didn’t do that.

But then, this post is not about traveling back in time. But de-aging myself. If I had the opportunity, will I go for it?

Well, if I were an actor or a footballer, I would most likely consider it. We all know how age sensitive these two professions are. The older you get, the closer you get to your retirement. This led to many in the professions lying about their age. That’s why you’d see a 22 year old celebrating the birth of his 25 year old son. If these people had such an opportunity, they would de-age immediately.

But alas, I’m not an actor or a footballer. I’m just a writer, and the beauty of it is that the gift does not dull with age. If anything, it gets sharper and more intuitive. If not, legends like Wole Soyinka, Steven King, and R.L Stine would no longer be the force they still are in their old age.

Do you know that R.L. Stine is 79 years of age? Yet, he still writes great horror novels for young adults. Steven King is 75 years old, and he still writes bestsellers to this very day. What about Wole Soyinka? He’s 88 years of age, and still very much active in the world of writing. I could go on and on about writers who are doing great work, even in their old age.

When you think about it though, as a writer, the older you get, the more respect you’re given. As you get older, you become more dignified in the field. Your writing skill becomes sharpened, and since most writings are inspired by life around us, you’ll have an even more realistic way of telling your story. a way more realistic than you had when you were still young.

So, if I had the opportunity, will I take it? Nah… I don’t think I’ll do that. To me, I don’t see the point because getting younger does not buy me more time, it’s not like traveling back in time so I’ll be able to predict the future. It’s just me taking some years from my age. And if I do that, I’ll still be the same writer I was before making that decision. Age has nothing to do with this.

I know that there are many who would jump at the opportunity to shelve a few years off their age, but I’m not one of them. I love everything about myself, and that includes my age. If you’re one of those who wish to be able to de-age, believe me, I don’t hold it against you. We all are different and have different needs. But one thing is certain, in the end, we’ll have to come to terms with our age.

There is no avoiding that.

getting younger does not buy me more time
That's just the truth, jumping into the offer is not going to be the best option for me, there's dreams to chance and I love the woman I'm becoming.. it's a no no.. hehehe

But I would not judge people who will want to go back to become younger, because they have their reason, just like you have yours too.

Interesting article, I enjoyed my read.

Indeed... everyone has their reason for wanting what they do. It's a free world, and if they have the chance, they can goo for it.

You have said well here. Being a writer, you don't need to think of going back in time because even as we keep getting older, we get more realistic about life which would be in writing and help a lot of people tread on a gentle path. The likes of Wole Soyinka is an example that no matter our age, it doesn't stop us from doing the best in writing.

Indeed, age doesn't stop us from being creative, it helps us get better. So, why would I want to lose that by becoming younger? I don't think so.

Writers don't need de-aging they even need more years added haha 😂, the older they get, the more sharpened their writing skills become.

Would you then consider fast tracking your age? I know you won't, just joking though, interesting piece!

The reality is we can't go back to the past. Doesn't matter if we want it or not. In my case, I am still young and I also don't want to go back but there is nothing wrong to go to the past to make the present better. I see it from this perspective.

Yeah... you have a valid perspective. But then, as you mentioned, we have to be realistic. No going to the past for us.
