Time To Get Out!!!
One of the perks of being a remote worker that’s no longer a student is the idea of you know, rarely having to go out. And then, if you live in a neighborhood like mine where you can easily buy things without really going too far, you’ll have no reason to ever leave your home. While everyone else would prepare in the morning or at noon to step out of the house and go make some money, you could remain in bed as long as you want and get up when it’s time to hit your computers and start punching out the dollar signs.
This is a sedentary lifestyle that I’m coming to adopt, and do I like it? Hell no! At least in the past, I had school to go to, I didn’t enjoy it but it was a great excuse for me to leave the house on a regular basis. Many times I walked just so that I could stretch my legs and flex my muscles a little bit. But since my graduation, it’s been a little different and I don’t want it.
I don’t want to be a couch potato. I don’t want to be stuck in front of the computer every day, working. I’m not saying that I don’t love my work, of course I do. I’m just saying that I need more reasons or excuses to be able to leave my home because left to me, I’m running out of them.
I go to visit my friends once in a while, but no matter how close we are, there can only be so many times you can visit without overstaying your welcome. I can’t go there every single day, as if my own home is chasing me. I also don’t have something urgent that would always be sure to get me out of the house. And besides, I wish that I could just get out of the house and walk without destination. I want to be able to feel the heat of the sun against my face every once in a while.
So, what have I come up with? So far, it’s just working out that I can think of. This time around, it won’t just be in the comfort of my home. I’ll do it outside, I’ll go into the school to jog or I’d simply do it on the road. At random hours of the day, I’ll simply get up and walk around the compound, sort of reminding my body that I have legs that are meant to still be used.
Believe me, when I tell you this, it can be so easy to forget that sitting in one place for too long can wound you. This is even worse when you don’t have a conducive environment; like maybe your seat is too low or too high, or your desk is too far away. Sitting with a haunch for hours at a time will hurt you in a major way.
It also weakens the body muscles because even walking is a form of exercise and it strengthens the body muscles. Lack of that would be detrimental in the long run. Now, on my own, simply walking around my home and going to the shops around will no longer cut it for me. I have to do something more major, I have to start getting out there. It’s about time I took my health and fitness into my hand.

Hahaha. This is me in this post. At least, I was having a good reason to go out during my service and that was to go to my PPA or CDS. Now, everything has ended and I am always stuck in my room all day and no one will know I am inside except in the evenings when I need to charge at my neighbour's apartment who always put on the generator every night. I wish I could get a job to take me out there, to feel the sun, to meet new people and just enjoy walking.
As in ehn... this is what working from home does to a person. The days will just be passing by and you just might never notice because you're swamped with work and chores.
You are so right. Yesterday, I was still surprised how we'd be entering the 14th day. It is well. Lol
Hehe. It's similar to me. I finished my exam and in the last two months, I went outside of home rarely. I only go outside for my tuition. But I am not so worried about it as I am treating it as resting time and during the time I am watching a lot of drama series.
Hehe... that's a positive spin to it. For me, I'm done resting, so I'm up for something else to go outside for.
I just couldn't stop smiling as I read this piece. At the peak of my freelancing days, it got to a point that I barely had decent clothes. There was no reason to buy clothes since I spent most of my days on singlets and briefs.
I eventually stepped out last April to get a job when I had issues with the outsourcing company I worked with. Now, I've sorted my issues with them but I'm scared of quitting my day job to go back to staying indoors. I planned to quit the day job last month, October, but here I am still with them, extending my stay till December.
Take early morning exercise serious - I do jog about 1 hour back then. Also, get involved in sporting activities. If you play football, look for a football field around you and play even if it's on Saturday mornings. If you don't play, go over there and watch others play. It is therapeutic; it worked for me.
This exercise bit is actually helpful. I used to do my workout routine indoors, but now I'll start taking it out of the house. Also the football part is helpful. I don't play, but most of my friends do. I can spend some time watching them.

I perfectly understand the situation of remote workers and how seeking for ways to keep fit matters a lot. I think since you are done with school and will still be busy with your work, working out makes sense.. just like we discussed the other day via WhatsApp...it doesn't matter if you have destination or not...some days you can choose evening, some days it could be morning, just walk a bit of long distance, capturing things u see that attract you...lol, life of a blogger 😃
