Self-Denial Is Not So Easy... Or Is It?
Self-denial is something that whether we like it or not, we’re gonna have to do to ourselves at one time or the other of our lives. Especially if we have goals we’re looking to achieve and they require some sacrifices to be made.
What makes this very important is because it requires us to look past the present, and make decisions that will affect the future. We deny ourselves a lot of things with the hope that the sacrifice will pay off greatly later in future. After all, nothing comes for nothing.
We might not even notice it, but we all deny ourselves things every day. We do it so much that we no longer notice. Take for instance, you having to get up in the morning despite feeling weak and sleepy. You know that it’ll just be awesome to pump your pillows and get more comfortable. Instead, you let out a grunt of dissatisfaction as you get off the bed to prepare for the day.
As you choose to get up, you’re denying yourself a few extra hours of sweet sweet sleep, just so you can call in to work on time. However, should this self-denial not take place, you could choose to remain in bed and of course wake up late. This could lead to you getting to the office late. And if care is not taken, it could cost you your job.
That’s how it is for just about everything we do, from mundane things to the major ones that really have us racking our brains to get a definite answer.
As for this self-denial, this is a hill I am very familiar with. Especially this year alone, there are so many sacrifices I’ve had to make just so that I could achieve my goals. And this is not just financially, I’ve made so many commitments and had to let go of others so that everything will not get jumbled up in my brain.
As a worker, especially someone like me that works from home, it’s so easy to get distracted. Things that won’t affect people that work in the office space, would affect most remote workers, and succumbing to them will mean that for that day, there’ll be no work for you that day.
And then, let’s not talk about the sacrifices one has to make as they run a business or seek to make an investment. A lot of us would much rather spend all those monies on ourselves and use it to have a good time than invest it. However, we all know why we do what we do. We know the value of it and that is enough reason for us to do it, denying ourselves everything.
As I said, self-denial is not something one can avoid. However, there are some things that are too difficult to deny ourselves, probably because of the value attached to it. Here, a great strength of mind would be required.
One can only hope that as we deny ourselves a lot of things in search of the one, we’ll not come up empty. But on that, only time will tell, I guess.
Yes it isn't at all, to achieve certain things in life, self denial comes to play @bruno-kema
Truly self denial is part of life, as long as we have goals to attain, sacrifices must be made one way or or another.
Yeah... without making adequate sacrifices, having achievements will be difficult.
"we deny ourselves a lot of things with the hope that the sacrifice will pay off greatly"
Isn't that what all man is praying for? We just hope it all pays off at the end of the day.
Yeah... that is the hope indeed. May it never turn out to be all for nothing.
Self denial is inevitable. Man is so full of desires and unfortunately we can't have all we want, the only thing we can do is let some go to have some.
Thanks for sharing this with us sir
We can't have all we want ooo, so we just have to let go of some things so we can get the more important ones.
I'm glad you enjoyed this.
Well said sir.. thanks for sharing this with us
We can't do without denying ourselves of some certain things just to meet up with our goals except if one doesn't have a goal to work for would such not go into self denial. But in the end, the struggle always pay off.
Struggles will always pay off, as long as one is determined to make it work.
We all have goals and dreams, but what sets us apart is the sacrifices we choose to make for the cause.

Thank you for this.
Hmm...
I enjoyed your post. I wonder if it is really saying NO to an extra hour's sleep or saying YES to being responsible.
Honestly it may seem like a tiny word distinction its the same result, right? In sales though I was once taught never to answer a question with NO because it gives a negative impression. Rather state things in a positive way to make a good impression.
Rather than say ...ugh... getting up again. Think ...awesome... I have another opportunity to make some money and greet the day!
Then again.... somedays that's much easier said than done :)
Yeah... kind of like the half-filled/half-empty bottle analogy. How you look at it shows the kind of lens with which you view life. If you're mostly negative, it will reflect in your life, and if you're mostly positive, it will be seen as well.
This is why our mindset is really important.
Hehe. Yeah. That's why I didn't like the wording of the topic. I don't deny myself I indulge responsibly 😀
Self denial is what we do everyday, it part of every human life. Sometimes we deny ourselves so many things just to accomplish our set out goals. Sweet sleep can be very difficult to sacrifice but we all do just to accomplish our plans. Nice post.
Things man must do just to get ahead in life. But then, we do them because they're necessary.
Thank you.
After reading your post I just realized that I am self-denying at the current time. It's because I want to watch an anime at the current time but I am not doing it because I am reading other's posts and replying to those who made comments on my post. To be honest I never thought we all do self-deny almost all the moments.
Hehe...😂
We do it for the big things and for the small ones as well. The greater the ask, the more major the decision. However, we undergo self-denial so we can achieve a goal that we've set our minds to.
