Personal Problems Ain't Public Issues... I Guess...
In the rigors of living our daily lives and chasing our goals, it is quite easy to lose track of a lot of things. Many things that we are meant to do ourselves, and things that we are meant to rely on the government for. Many times, we try to do the wrong things and for other things we wait on the government when in reality we are the ones that should be tackling the problem. This will be a classic case of personal troubles and classic issues. Because when it’s happening to just you, it’s your problem. But once it’s happening to more than one of you, it becomes a public issue. You have always wondered why over the years the kind of content we see on our local television stations has gotten more raunchy. If we are to be honest with ourselves, a lot of the music videos our artists release these days do not deserve to be shown on TV due to their nature. But still, they are allowed to be aired by the bodies in charge of regulating it. Now, while local television stations will never air anything that involves full nudity, the line gets sketchy when it becomes half nudity. Some get aired and some get banned. That’s one of the things that made cable more popular because there were no restrictions there. So, you as a parent, how do you plan to allow your child to keep watching TV, but stay away from such content? Are you going to wait on the government to ban such content? Or you’ll find a way to make sure such things don’t touch your child. Because when you think about it, while the government might be the mother to everyone, they are a parent to no one. The government is not in charge of raising your kids, that’s your job as a parent. And this spreads to other forms of media as well, especially social media where it is almost impossible to regulate the kind of content they consume. I’ve always heard people complain about the popular reality TV show Big Brother Naija, calling for the government to place a ban on it. But why would they do such a thing? It is a venture that brings in a lot of revenue, both for the sponsors and the government, so, if you don’t like what they do, simply don’t watch it! You can’t be calling for something to be banned, but every season the show starts, you’ll be the first to know the name of the contestants by heart. Whatever issues you may have with the show, it’s what we call a “You” problem. But then, there are times when we find ourselves trying to act as the government or as a higher authority over other people. And this is something that is getting more and more rampant today. And chief example of this is Cancel Culture. Even before people hear your side of a story, they condemn you and do their very best to bring you down. Destroying everything you’ve worked so hard to build. And even if everything turns out to be false, you won’t see the same people that painted you black recant their errors. It’s sad really, people who have personal problems of their own would leave it all to go and judge someone’s mistakes. Either past or present. Then actively work to bring the down. But who sent them? Why not wait until proper investigations are carried out and we get the full story? No! No one thinks anything through anymore, the days of doing that are long gone. So, if someone so much as breaths in a way I don’t like, I destroy everything about them! We are humans, we are susceptible to our emotions. When we allow ourselves to be led by emotions, we’ll find ourselves making errors like these, and when we do, innocent people suffer as a result. Am I saying there are no bad people? No. I’m just saying we should leave that to the courts and investigators to determine. Do not judge and condemn anyone before the law does that. Always wait until you hear the full story and then act accordingly. And in the same vein, know what you should do for yourself in all facets of your life, and then what the government will do for you. Once you have all these at the back of your mind, you’ll find it easy to get a lot of things done and move on with your life.

That's why I won't watch the program, there's nothing I gain from it, it might bring revenue, but what is it really portraying,?
Omo... I don't think those in charge care about portrayal. As long as it's raking in money, that'ss whats important. Because in the end, it's just business to them.

Hi there @bruno-kema
I totally have to agree that what you watch, listen to, but etc..is all up to the consumer. If you don't want your kid to read a book, then tell them NO. And by that token, also I hate when people want to judge a book, movie, or what ever and have never taken the time to investigate the subject yourself... Why is that. ? Is that being called a lazy consumer? LoL
In the end, it all boils down to you as an individual or as a parent. You get to decide what you or your ward consume. Because while the government has to take care of your interests, they also have to take care of the interests of others. And in a free world, that's a bit tricky.

No Doubt.

I think a lot of people are used to ignoring the problems that they have and they will be judging other people.
It makes no sense though.
Yeah... which is why it's baffling that people still do it.

We always wait for the government to do something whenever we don't have the capability to do anything and we strongly disagree with it. It is a personal problem and they can avoid it but the fact is many people love to blame the government and that's also a fact.
Indeed... the government is a handy target when it comes to blame. When problems are personal, we solve them personally. That's just it.

Change begins with each and every one of us in our individual lives. It is when everyone begins to work on themselves that's when the change that we desire will materialize.
I guess... we all have to learn to take a moment and think things through before we come out to talk about a person. Very important.
