Home Is With Family!!!
There are so many factors to consider when it comes to deciding if aged people should be taken to retirement homes or be kept at home with the rest of the family. Many of these decisions are not made easily because in the end, what matters the most is what is best for the family.
The aged among us are those who have lived a rich and full life, basically experiencing everything that they could. They gave their lives for us the young ones and now that they’re frail and old, it’s up to us to decide the kind of life they have. Now, many of us may be working. It’s no news that both the husband and wife could be busy workers who spend their entire day working and only come home at night. Bringing an aged person to such a home would mean that for the most part of the day and the week, the parent would be all alone in the house.
Personally, I don’t feel that one is bad or the other is good. I feel instead that everyone simply does what they think is best, and that should be the driving force. If you as an individual should decide to take your aged parents to the nursing home, it’s all good and fine. However, what are your reasons for that? Let your conscience then judge you.
One thing many old people suffer from, especially widows and widowers is loneliness. It’s so easy for them to be overlooked when all the young people around them are so focused on pursuing their dreams. But then, there are those who simply chuck their aged parents into nursing homes simply because they don’t want to have to deal with the rigors of taking care of them. There are people who have genuine reasons and there are those who simply have shallow and selfish reasons.
For me, what would it be? As I mentioned before, we’re five kids in my family and I’m the fourth child. So, before my parents can stay with me, they would have to have passed through my three elder siblings. But I really have no issues with housing them in my home. Regardless of the cost. Matter of fact, I would prefer they’re in my home where I can place a closer watch on them than if the nursing home was doing that.
Thankfully, I’m a remote worker, and I plan to remain one for as long as possible because I just don’t see myself doing a 9-5. So, always staying at home, will give me time to spend with them in their old age. Even if I switch professions and have to start moving about, I don’t think I’d still send them to a nursing home. I don’t feel comfortable with that idea. I don’t think they have what it would take to take care of my parents.
But then, I don’t really know much about that particular industry. I’ve heard a lot of terrible things about them, and I’ve also heard some nice things as well. It can be scary to give my parents into the hands of people who will only maltreat them, even after the exorbitant fees that I’d pay. The only way I can know for sure that they won’t be maltreated is if they’re with me, or any of my siblings. Other than that, I’d always be worried about their well-being.
Well, like I said earlier, people will only do what they feel is the best for them. That’s just the truth. If you’re too busy as an individual and you know your parents are better off in a nursing home, it might be better to send them there. Pay the fee and let them be taken care of. However, if your reason for sending them off is simply because you don’t want to have to deal with them, then you have a problem.
As I already said, let your conscience be the judge.

Thank you for this.
It's true, there are pros and cons in this case, it all depends on each individual, but personally I prefer to take care of my parents at home rather than having to leave them in a nursing home.
Our parents also used to have a lot of activities, some worked day and night, but they still stayed at home.
Uh-huh... we all need to do our best for our parents. That's what's the most important.
In my case, There is no chance to send my parents in retirement home as I think I can take care of them and it's my responsibility also. Moreover, my parents can make friends from my place also even if I remain busy in the future.
Yeah... home will always be a better option when they're aged.
Thank you for this.
First thing that comes to mind is that....these set of people made one of the biggest impact on one's life and the time they need us most should not be spent alone.
Like you've explained, some people work schedule might not allow them have their aged ones at home. For such people, I think the balance is taking their aged ones to nursing homes but paying frequent visit to them.
Whatever good the future holds,I will try my best to see that my parents do not lack attention, care and love.
Yes ooo... that period is very vital because they would be all alone while we the young ones are busy trying to build our lives. That loneliness can do a lot to affect them. We must pay more attention.
