Respect & the lack of it

In the past, I experienced disrespect in large doses from people around me but most especially from women at work. I have a question, how do you deal with disrespect? What is your response to people belittling you or trying to make you seem like a fool?

For one, you cannot make me look like a fool. It would be the contrary because I would ignore you. One thing I have learned to do over the years is ignore. I come across people who are pushy and rude as hell, the only thing a response would do is stoke their fire. Ignoring them is the best way to go about your day and not ruin it. What is that saying again; silence is the best answer for a fool? I think so too.

Truth be told, I have come across people who just cannot ignore. From my perspective, it has caused more pain to them because they just cannot get a grip over their anger. It is valid to be angry but is the after effect worth the trouble? Does this mean to tolerate every form of disrespect thrown your way? Absolutely not! I will not tolerate it within my home or from people I genuinely care about. I would voice my discomfort and make sure to immediately hash it out right then.

This also raises the question, what leads to disrespect? From my knowledge, disrespect stems from lack of value. When you are not valued, there is all possibility that those within that range of thought will disrespect you. I have to say I experienced more of this at my work place then because these women felt that I had no idea what it was to be a woman and others would go ahead to link me being "ignorant" to the fact that I was "white and male".

Every human has the way they see the world but disrespecting anyone in the process is just not okay. There was a quote I saw about how your emotions are valid but the way you react to them is not always right. Humans will be humans. Embarking on the journey of earning respect in the first place, I see as futile. Why? As much as respect is reciprocal, it does not justify belittling anyone for the reason that they have not "earned" your respect.

Now, I get that there are people who are assholes from the start and you just cannot look at them as anything other than a waste of space. Your feelings are valid; does it mean you should voice it? I think not. Reminds me of a post in my drafts that I will share soon. I was covering the subject of when and when not to speak.

When I say it is better not to voice, I mean for your sake. When you reply, you are adding gasoline to the fire and then they annoy you more because you already gave them the power when you gave them a reply. It is so important to be able to maintain self-control at these times when people try to disrespect you or your knowledge. Because it does no good stooping to their level.

I have to deal with this quite often at work and I have to handle as professional as possible as a security guy. And yes, ignoring is the best way to deal with it. In my private life there is no place for that at all and I would delete our friendship and cut off the contact.

As it should be. Frankly I think it’s only a waste of time to reply people who have nothing to do with you in the first place
