Another week, another loss: NCAA Week 5, NFL Week 4 recap
When I found out the Michigan State football game was later in the day on Saturday, I was kind of excited. It meant that we would probably be home from watching our niece play soccer and I was likely going to be able to enjoy the game on my couch.
Unfortunately, once again there wasn't too much to enjoy about the game. Michigan State did a pretty good job of holding their own against Iowa for a good portion of the game, but eventually costly errors caused them to piddle it away.
There were some key penalties that really hurt the team and if those had been off the board, they might have had a chance. Their defense was playing much better than they did against Maryland and their offense was playing pretty tight as well.
It's not going to get any easier for Michigan State. I'd hate to think those cupcake games at the beginning of the season are the only wins they are going to be able to pull out. As I usually say, I guess time will tell...
#25 Louisville barely beat North Carolina State 13 to 10 to avoid the upset on Saturday. As you will see in a couple of days, I put some money down on BYU to take out Cincinnati and that worked out quite well for me. Congrats Cougars on your win!
I've said it before, but Penn State is looking good this year. They thumped on Northwestern 41 to 13. Despite the obvious errors I mentioned above, Maryland is actually looking pretty good this year and I wouldn't be shocked if they made their way in to the top 25 at some point. #2 Michigan had little trouble handling Nebraska, but then again who really has lately?
Don't answer that, I am sure MSU will probably struggle against them. That might be the one thing that the Cornhuskers have going for them this year. November 4th. Keep that date in mind, it could be the one conference win Nebraska gets this year!
That #23 LSU/#16 Ole Miss game looks like it was pretty exciting. The Rebels came away with a 55 to 49 victory. Did the defenses even bother to show up?
Everything else is falling about the way you would expect across the board. There were some overtime games against some lower tier teams, but nothing significant.
It looks like Michigan State has the weekend off, so hopefully they can use that time to get their stuff together!
Detroit started the weekend with some fireworks taking down Green Bay in Wisconsin 34 to 20. I think it is safe to say that The Packers no longer have the Lions number like they have for the last half decade or more. With that win, the Lions now sit at the top of the NFC Central. It's almost too hard to believe for us die hard Lions fans!
As bad as Denver got throttled by Miami last week, they sprung back and showed that the Bears are even worse than they are this year. Final score... Broncos 31, Bears 28.
Speaking of Miami, they couldn't replicate their performance and they fell to Buffalo 48 to 20.
Tennessee continues to look good and the teams from Ohio continue to look pretty bad. The Browns and the Bengals both lost this past weekend.
The Colts took the Rams to overtime, but fell short losing 23 to 29. Meanwhile, the Saints are struggling under their new head coach.
I'm also a bit shocked that Washington took Philadelphia to overtime. The Eagles ended up wining, but still. That's impressive for a Commanders team that has been struggling this year.
Kansas City also had a bit of a tough time putting away The Jets. The 23 to 20 victory isn't what we have come to expect from Mahomes and his crew. KC still sits at the top of the AFC West, but their days of being unbeatable are behind them I think.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the Lions do this weekend. They face off with Carolina in Detroit, so you better believe Ford Field will be rocking!
