ON THE ROAD TO MARCHANA
We stopped by this lovely piece of ancient drystone architecture.
It's called Kazun and it looks like an igloo, an arctic snow house made of stone. This type of building was used as a dwelling in the neolithic and has survived in its original form as a small shack at the edge of the cultivated fields.
In the last thousand years or so, Kazun's are used to store agricultural tools and as shelters from the storm. Here you can see Denis in Kazun's interior.
After taking this photograph, we continued the journey back home. We passed through Marchana and three or four smaller villages, and then ...
... we stopped in Liznjan, only a couple of kilometers from Medulin, our hometown.
Denis and another friend had to buy some stuff in the small grocery store on the road that leads to the small harbor.
While they were inside the store, I was observing things around me in search of cool details to put in this post. This advert for the Slovenian beer accompanied by two empty billboards definitively looked cool enough.
Here you can take a look at the windows of the brand-new building across the road.
Here, one shot before the end, you can take another look at Kazun on the road to Marchana.
In this last photograph, taken by @denisdenis, you can see me at the entrance.
Today I drove twenty kilometers or so, to the small town that goes by the name of Vodnjan. My friend Denis (@denisdenis here on HIVE) had to do some stuff there, I had some time and a car, so I drove him to Vodnjan. Didn't take any photographs there, but on our way back, I stopped to take a shot or two on the road that leads to the village of Marchana. The fastest route from my hometown to Vodnjan leads through the city of Pula, and we passed that way on the way there. But on the way back, we decided to avoid the city because we noticed too much traffic in that direction. That's how we ended up on the road to Marchana.
ALL THE PHOTOGRAPHS, EXCEPT THE LAST ONE, ARE MY WORK. THAT LAST PHOTOGRAPH, WITH ME IN THE PICTURE, WAS TAKEN BY @denisdenis.

It is nice sharing this I really love every part of it.
Thanks. Glad you like the post.
In your post, the first photo and this building is for soldier, right? my country also have a lot of like this. But they build with the sand bag. Thank for sharing.
No. This one was built for the tools and stuff like that. And as a small shelter when it rains. But I can imagine a similar building as a little bunker.
Aww thank for explaining that. I think a small bunker. But not like that and for a shelter. Thz !lolz
It is an old structure which was built by placing stones one after the other. You have entered into it which may cause fear. stay safe
It's a nice stone structure worth admiring of
Very good performance from ancient people to make a building or their custom place, very neatly arranged and certainly very sturdy.
Very rewarding trip for everyone, amazing.🥰🥰
did the construction of Kazun use adhesive as the material to hold the stones together?
No. No adhesive.
This post in a way has promoted and made us aware of a place like Marchana. And if paraventure I step out to this country, this is the first place to go to see this beautiful architectural design.
That was brilliant of them to build such for the future. Now it has a great use.
Thank you very much for sharing @borjan and my regards to your friend, @denisdenis .
I always wonder how they build those igloo's it seems so unstable. Like a little nudge from a side and everything is down 😂
