The frog shown in this post is the Hyla arborea ...

... commonly known as the European tree frog.

It was photographed near the abandoned stone quarry in the area around the village of Liznjan. About five or six kilometers from where I live, and about a hundred meters from the nearest sea.

These frogs can tolerate some periods of dryness but need stagnant bodies of water for their reproduction.

I came across a small green frog on the 10th of May 2007. It looked a lot like that frog from The Muppet Show. Kermit The Frog. I haven't seen this kind of frog for almost a decade in the coastal meadows where these photographs were taken. At first sight, it's an unexpected place for a frog. The terrain looks dry and stony. The vegetation isn't lush and everything looks pretty dry in general. But the springtime used to be rainy. Thanks to the stony terrain, seasonal puddles and ponds were created, so the tadpoles had a place to grow. The last couple of years are pretty dry in that period. Everything looks the same though, except the durable puddles. With less rain, only shallow ones are created, and those evaporate quickly. There isn't enough time for the frog's aquatic part of the life cycle.

It's a little strange if you mention that you find this frog in such a dry place, especially if the frog you share in the photo is a tree frog. Yes as we know that frogs live in wet places such as ponds and so on..
