Good for Messi.

Good for Messi.

The Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi is once again in the spotlight in China, but this time it is not for Glory, on the contrary, he is being the subject of a round of criticism from fans and authorities.

In different social networks you can see how a man kicks a Messi poster in the face and in others a blogger cutting and shredding Messi's shirts.

All this anger has its origins in an incident that occurred last week, when tens of thousands of people from all over Hong Kong flocked to a stadium to watch a friendly match involving the legendary Argentine footballer, but the match ended on a sad note. Messi did not get to play apparently due to an injury and days later he appeared in another game but in Japan.

This sparked the ire of the Chinese press since here he apparently had no injury, the Beijing State tabloid The Global Times said that “the impact of Messi's non-performance in Hong Kong far exceeded the sporting field and caused suspicions about his integrity and that of his team.”

In addition, the former editor-in-chief of the media published this video on multiple CCP approvals.

This scandal comes as Hong Kong attempts to restore its image damaged by the crackdown on pro-democracy protests in 2019 just before the “pandemic.”

In the end Messi apologized to the Chinese fans, which had nothing to do with their legitimate protest against the Chinese regime.
