Maximizing a Minimal Space, My Space Saving Hack

avatar

Living in a small apartment, having enough space is one major problem I have to address. How would I be able to utilize the given space in a way that it would not hinder myself to move around freely and have personal space. That was the biggest challenge.

Considering the limited space I have, I lessen my belongings as much as I could. I only bought the most essential appliances such as a small refrigerator, stove, water dispenser and a cabinet. From personal belongings to frunitures, I minimize to maximize the space. The things I have in my apartment are basically the essential things. I choose wisely the things I would put inside so it will not eat up the little space I had when it's not even that useful.

But aside from minimizing things I own, I also maximize spaces such as spaces below my bed or space below the wooden sofa. I used plastic boxes that would fit under these spaces.

The width and height of this box is enough to hold enough space for the accumulated clothes I had for my self, my husband and for my kids. Though I don't shop too much for clothes, it can't be helped. I needed more space for it. Clothes are one of those things that accumulate as time went on.

I also used a smaller box for the undies. To maximize the space of this smaller box, I roll our undies in that way as shown in the picture. Aside from maximizing the space, it also save time when we have to use them. Choosing what to wear is much easier since I could just haul them out and put back again without having to fold it all over again.

The box also fit perfectly on the space below.

I am a fan of multipurpose furnitures. Perhaps my most favorite furniture in my place is a storage box that also serve as a sofa. It is spacious and durable. When I first move to our apartment, I bought this multipurpose storage box. This is my storage for my papers, books, kid's notebooks and my laptop when I don't use it.

When we used to stay in the first apartment which is just adjacent to the one we are staying now, I love how I was able to decorate more my space there compared to the present place. Maybe because of how the door is placed. I love how my storage box / sofa stand out and adding aesthetics to my living room space.

These are some of my simple hacks to save space. When I'll have my own house, I'd love to have multipurpose furnitures too since I appreciate how those will maximize spaces on the house.

I'd love to read more of your space saving hacks too and learn from it. Here's the link to this week's #KISS Blog Idea | Week 79

It's a double win with the furniture having storage space!

You get to save space and if someone happens to break in, who would even consider thinking of looking in the furniture!

Brilliant I tell you! Absolutely brilliant!!

Rolling clothes does save space. I do this now with bath towels in our closet.

When I was in the military to take more when I traveled I rolled all my clothes. This was helpful as I didn't necessarily have to do laundry so often at the deployed location. A big difference as I would deploy to places for 90 to 179 days.

Yes to multipurpose furniture. I have a couch that has middle section that folds down to a table. Also the arms pop open for storage. Good place for magazines and extra electrical things. When I lived in an apartment I had a couch that I thought was just a couch. Had it for five years before I discovered a table came down in the middle and had a drawers on the front. Felt like Christmas day when I found that out, haha

Haha that's long years of not knowing that space saver drawer exist. You wasted five long years of space, lol!

Yes, rolling clothes really saves space especially when we travel. I roll my clothes too when I travel. Very efficient.

In all fairness I lived there by myself at first and let me tell you there was plenty of space. I was a minimalist because I had no money for space taking things other than a couch, TV stand, table, dresser and bed. 🤣 😂 🤣 The kitchen cabinets were pretty bare to, haha.

I was a minimalist because I had no money

Haha, good practice to become a real minimalist. It's not a very bad thing anyway. When we have less money, we develop more useful skills... As they sauy, less is more.

It's hard to think of a good design for the house especially if you have limited space but it's not impossible to make something out of it. Dyan lalabas creativity nating lahat. Btw we also have the plastic box, Mom put her undies on it too. Some is with clothes.

The way you are folding your clothes remind me of this show that I watched:
Tidying Up with Marie Kondo

You could watch it as well if it is available to you, it teaches how to tidy up our living spaces and more importantly how to declutter! 😅

Your house is so cute, neat and tidy 😻 I've lived in small places too, where finding space is the chore 😸.

I love your storage boxes. I have one to put some kitchen stuff in. I like it because it stays closed and keeps out any bugs.

Thank you. It's really cute so it's a challenge to keep it spacious. But the good thing, it's easier to keep it clean. 😀

These boxes are nice picks. They store things. Looks neat too.

This is very nice. The use of box to collect and keep those clothes is a very nice idea. Once they're covered and placed under bed or chair, stain won't touch them, and a good space is saved

Oh gosh thanks for this!

The furniture with space thing is super clever!

I use boxes for storage quite a bit as well but I own so little furniture now that I end up piling everything into one small cupboard and it's impossible to find stuff half the time.

Game on :)
