TOMATO TRELLIS Update, and Garden Tour

IMG_8337.JPG

FINALLY! My trellis for tomato and cucumber is in place!

If you've been following me, you know we had some snow and storms.

After a challenging winter, I finally had a chance to fix the trellis issue! I ordered 3 of these metal arch for gardens. Most people use Cattle Panel and arch them to make a trellis for vining up and over. Unfortunately, my local big box stores were out, when i wanted to order. Hence, these three arches for a fix. Here's me putting it together:

LOTS of bits and bobs!

I've been training my cucumbers up, and on one side, creating a jute twine Florida weave (for my cherry tomato) On the other side, I attached some chicken wire for running up my bigger beefier tomato:

Giant Crimson, Mushroom Basket, Beefsteaks, and Brandywines.

How are you growing your tomato?

My gardens are in Zone 7a/7b New England.

Most of you know, I prefer to grow my own food, locally. It's healthier for my family, and for the planet. I know what goes into my foods, and what chemicals are NOT in my food. Also, It cuts down on carbon emissions, less trucking, planes, trains, and boats, to get fresh foods to my table.

And that makes me smile... better for the planet, better for my own family.

My tomatos are in cages. My cukes are climbing a makeshift section of fence. We always discuss a proper trellis arch but then they start growing and we improvise 🙄 Nice potato blossoms. Our peas are still producing but thats par for the course I seem a good two weeks behind you usually. It has been an exceptional year for hydrangea here too

my peas made it almost 5 ft high! Then, I found a rabbit, munching on the shoots at ground level. the plant was still on the trellis, while the bottom was GONE, Bunny, GONE!

Can you grow in a pot or two near your door? Every little bit helps.

I can, but I don't get much sun. The only plant that is surviving will is my aloe Vera plant 🪴
