Das Wetter in Berlin und Brandenburg war nicht wirklich schön, Schmuddelwetter eben. Da bot sich ein Trip nach #Griechenland an.

Leider wurde der erste Flug wegen Streik gecancelt. So ging es erst eine Woche später los. Dieses Mal von Berlin über Zürich nach Athen, Direktflüge nach Korfu gibt es erst wieder ab Frühjahr.

Bei der Gelegenheit habe ich mir dann noch ein wenig Athen angeschaut.

Handy-Zoom in der Nacht ist nicht optimal, aber dieser Ausblick auf diesen uralten Tempel, hoch über der Stadt thronend, war schon beeindruckend.

Der Monastiraki-Platz liegt mitten in der Altstadt, zu Füssen der Akropolis. Hier befindet sich auch eine Metrostation mit guter Verbindung zum Flughafen. Rund um den Platz wird einiges geboten. Die Agora, der antike Versammlungsplatz, Geburtsstädte der Demokratie liegt gleich um die Ecke.

Und mitten durch diesen antiken Platz fährt eine der Metro-Linien, Griechenland eben. 😀
Athen bietet ja eine Unmenge an antiken Gebäuden, Ausgrabungsstätten und Museen. Hier kann man sich Tage lang aufhalten und informieren.

Typisch für Griechenland sind ja auch die vielen Kirchen und Ikonen:

Die griechisch-orthodoxen Kirchen haben natürlich ihren ganz eigenen Stil.

Und immer wieder gibt es ein paar Strassenmusikanten.

Direkt angrenzend an den Monastiraki-Platz findet man sehr viele Lokale, Bistros, Geschäfte und den Flohmarkt. Hier gibt es allerhand Krimskrams, Trödel, Souvenirs und wenn man Glück hat, kann man evtl. sogar ein kleines Schätzchen finden.

Nicht weit entfernt von hier in den engen Gassen und Plätzen bieten zahlreiche Restaurants die Möglichkeit, ausgiebig die griechische Küche mit Gyros, Lamm, allerlei Gemüse oder Fisch und Meerestiere zu geniessen.

In den Seitengassen existieren noch viele kleine Läden, Bäcker, Metzger, Handwerker. Die Auslage ist für deutsche Verhältnisse doch manchmal etwas skuril.

Die Lokale und Bistros besitzen oft ihren ganz eigenen Charme:

The weather in Berlin and Brandenburg was not really nice, just gloomy weather. So a trip to #Greece seemed like a good idea.

Unfortunately, the first flight was canceled due to a strike. So it only started a week later. This time from Berlin via Zurich to Athens, direct flights to Corfu will only be available again in the spring.

On this occasion, I also took a look at Athens.

Zooming in with a phone at night is not optimal, but this view of this ancient temple, towering high above the city, was impressive.

Monastiraki Square is located in the middle of the old town, at the foot of the Acropolis. Here is also a metro station with good connection to the airport. There is a lot to see around the square. The Agora, the ancient assembly place and birthplace of democracy, is just around the corner.

And right through this ancient square runs one of the metro lines, Greece indeed. 😀
Athens offers a multitude of ancient buildings, archaeological sites, and museums. Here you can spend days exploring and learning.

Typical for Greece are also the many churches and icons:

The Greek Orthodox churches naturally have their own style.

And there are always a few street musicians.

Directly adjacent to Monastiraki Square, you will find many restaurants, bistros, shops, and the flea market. Here you can find all sorts of odds and ends, junk, souvenirs, and if you're lucky, you might even find a little treasure.

Not far from here, in the narrow streets and squares, numerous restaurants offer the opportunity to enjoy Greek cuisine with gyros, lamb, various vegetables, or fish and seafood.

In the side streets, there are still many small shops, bakers, butchers, craftsmen. The display is sometimes a bit quirky for German standards.
