Data Storage Blockchain/Crypto Disruption Starts

avatar

When you thought about needed large data storage, hosting etc everyone always went to one spot. That go to spot was AWS. It's been that way for a long time and other major companies have tried and failed to compete with it. But is that all about to change and can blockchain and crypto user in a new way of data storage?

There's been a lot of push for decentralized versions of data storage and how data storage is held online. I mean even Hive is heavily pushing towards this but honestly simply needs more developers to build these types of projects.

These applications while being built on hive could have potential centralized elements of them the overall vision of Hive is to be a decentralized data storage platform. Storing, threads, articles and more!

What's been happening with the internet as of late is the sheer massive volume of content which is hard to figure out what you actully need and you end up chasing other rabbits into holes as you're looking for the answer to your original question.

What you get is a massive network that starts to lose value over time because of the massive amount of it and instead what you need is something like the following...

The Intelligent Layer

Think of the intelligent layer as a layer that sits on top of the entire internet but then filters that massive database of content to you based on commands, prompts and even AI.

DAN (Decentralized Autonomous Networks) seem like they will be a move towards the future. We are seeing this the most in was are called DePin networks and I take a part in a few of them myself as I see the value and creativity of these.

Pretty much what a DePin is, is a blockchain and crypto token that uses some type of hardware such as a cell phone reception area to earn tokens for the usage of the network you are providing.

The other part is another one I take part in rather often and that's providing nodes or resources from a computer to these networks be it GPU, CPU or even hard drive space. These nodes are important for housing and spreading data all over the world in a fast network but reliable network that no single person, company or entity owns.

In fact while writing this I just booted up three nodes for Autonomi a newer blockchain that is currently focused on this type of tech and is in early access. Token drop is expected end of month into early next month (Feb. 2025).

For myself I believe more in these newer projects then the old bitcoin at least in terms of generating real wealth again. As bitcoin is extremely hard to mine and costly. Even large machine has a very small profit margin and unless you're producing your own power you simply wont ever recover your costs and you mid as well just bought bitcoin outright.

But I get it, its not as fun as having skin the game game, producing blocks, contributing to the networks and so forth. It's a whole other level that few get to experience but really should.

The Benefits

The benefits of these platforms as they grow will honestly rock the foundations of what is currently setup. Instead of massive companies data is now stored between people on smaller machines creating a massive network of easy to access info any time you might need it.

It also creates a powerful infrastructure that should always be available which is important for what we have seen happen over the last four years with peoples information, shutting down places and people on social, sites etc.

Overall this looks like a promising future for the blockchain, crypto and tech and I could see it really taking off in the next 5-10 years right now we are in the early stages.

Its likely the majority of future apps built on the Hive Blockchain or any other blockchain will have at least a touch of decentralization to them. My reasoning: When WEB2 users finally flood WEB3 it's not likely they fully abandon the business models they have come use to implementing.

Its always easy to stary things up but the difficult part is maintaining such infrastructures. And people find it difficult to do that

Isn't that what Filecoin (FIL) and SC does?
