Why Are AI Search Engines Still Spreading Outdated, Racist Ideas?

I didn’t expect the “smartest” tech companies like Google and Microsoft to mess up this badly with AI-powered search engines. It turns out these systems, which are supposed to provide quick, accurate information, have been pulling data from shady, outdated “race science” sources.

They’re dishing out misleading data suggesting that some races are inherently more intelligent than others, a widely debunked concept that was tossed out years ago.

These tech giants haven’t stopped their AIs from referencing studies by Richard Lynn, a controversial figure whose work is flawed at best, harmful at worst. For example, one search query about IQ scores for certain countries directly quoted Lynn's research, a study with incredibly weak samples, like gathering data from a few kids in refugee camps. Yet here we are, with AI bots presenting this as fact.

If these engines can’t filter out something this problematic, what else might they be getting wrong? As AI becomes more integrated into our daily lives, there’s a big need for checks and balances. Otherwise, tech could accidentally push harmful narratives instead of helping us find real, useful information. For now my advise for you is to always fact check the responses you get from these chatbots before you take them as Gospel.
