Beware Of What Your Children Watch.

Hello buddies. This is my first time posting in the Hive Naija community and I really feel good being with all of you here. I promise to follow the rules and regulations of this community and if there are so many other things you feel I need to know, I’d be glad to respond and follow all of those rules.

Children are precious gifts from God and the majority of us wish to have kids someday. Well, I’ve actually seen a few people who said they do not want to have kids maybe for one reason or the other but there is something I believe which is that we should not try to have kids when we are not ready. It can be any kind of readiness. We have the financial readiness which is very important and also the emotional readiness. As for me, I feel the emotional readiness os far important than the financial readiness and this is because someone may not be financially buoyant or capable to do many things but if he or she is emotionally ready to take care of the child, such a child may succeed.

As part of emotional readiness, we also get to deal with the kind of movies our children watch. Have you ever seen where a parent gave her child her phone to watch some cartoons and all that can help to sharpen the brain of the child? Those are the things that kids are supposed to watch and luckily for me, I was also brought up that way. I never had the opportunity to go out myself to buy discs or even get to watch some movies that may not be good for my age.

Also, I remember clearly that my parents used to have another television in their room aside from the one we had in the living room. I don’t know what they watch when they are in but they always make sure that they are familiar with the things we watch and if they realize that it is too much for our age, they always make sure to change the channel. That’s why I am familiar with series like Papa Ajasco, Superstory, Fuji House of Commotion and all…

The majority of them were in the comedy genre and was good for my age unlike now that kids may hold phones and begin to see some acts of nudity on the phone. Honestly, I’m not being wicked but I don’t think I would want to risk getting my child a phone before age fifteen. It would have been good because such a child can learn from those things but I would not like to expose my child to devilish things online and that’s why I’m not emotionally ready to have a child.
Well, it’s not like I want to be perfect because that’s not possible but I’m just taking my time. Being a parent changes a lot about you and that may happen to us when we become one. I hope and pray we all have the ability or what it takes to be good parents.

How do you think you can prevent your child from engaging in negative societal vices? Any idea?

Welcome to Hive Naija Bisolamih.

My parents didn't have a secind Tv in their room, we watch whatever it is we want to watch together. Growing up, most of the tv shows, movies and series barely had any adult content in them, so we were able to watch same movies.

I think ny the time you have your own kids, having a phone at very young age won't be optional. Reason is because the world is raoidly going digital and soon almost all schools will digitise teaching and learning.

No parent can be perfect, parent can oy try all their best.

We only ever had one TV in the house - we shared what we watched. We used video player a lot - set something up for the kids to watch provided the management. There was no streaming and UK TV was mostly children safe up to 9:00 pm.

When we moved to Australia, I set up a single study for 3 kids plus me - easy to manage screens then. No screens in rooms. That all changed when I moved out.

Now with TV streaming, one has to learn how the parental controls work. I managed the wifi router and could block off stuff I did not want them to watch. Hard to do - better to teach them the principles of good and bad so they make the right choices.
