Let's crochet a phone holder to keep track of my notifications.
Hello everyone, great monday again and I'm super excited to share a simple, problem solving crochet project with you all.
So, if there's one challenge that I have at work is keeping up with my notifications. Personally, I love my phone staying on silent because I love my environment in total tranquility. The slightest noise can disrupt my mood and ultimately my day so the phone remains silent and sometimes DND.
But how about official calls, emails and text messages? Sometimes I'd get a work call or text and expect my phone screen to light up, bringing forth the notification. Unfortunately with the phone laying flat on my work desk and my attention being on my system most times, I sort of miss the notifications when they come up.
Since the lighting at the work area reflects on the screen of my phone, it sort of dims out the light. So even if the lighting comes up, I don't get to see it unless of course my phone is resting diagonally on a surface. That way, with the phone slanting towards my direction, I won't miss the notification because the phone lighting will definitely reflect on my eye pupil bringing my attention to it. It was from this little calculation of mine that I decided to crochet this phone holder to ease my burden.
It's a multi-purpose phone holder really as it can also be used for movies and video calls.
So let's dive right into the process
MATERIAL
Yarn
3.5mm crochet hook
PROCEDURE
I used two yarns together to get thicker stitches so that the phone can hold. It's a straightforward process and requires nothing extra or cumbersome.
Let's get right on it…
Using the base of my phone as a measurement, I made a chain equal to the base length. Then I built on it with a single crochet, turning at each end till it gave me nine rows.
Once my nine rows were complete, at one of the edges, I started with a slip stitch and worked it on all the sides by slip stitching on each single crochet.
After covering all the edges of the single crochet with a slip stitch, at the last end, I chained one and continued with a single crochet for four rows. To mark the end of each row, I slip stitch and then chain one to begin a new row of single crochet.
At the end of my fourth row, I slip stitched and then chain two, continuing with a half double crochet on all three sides leaving out the fourth. The fourth side becomes our opening and to keep it open, I was crocheting plus decreasing back and forth the three sides using the half double crochet.
I ended the half double crochet at the tenth row of all three sides.
To end the project, I proceeded to tighten the edges with a slip stitch on all four sides. This I achieved by chaining one and skipping one stitch at intervals.
The project took me about three hours to complete and that's because I was doing a lot of loosing and correcting but thank heavens, I got the pattern right and it was really exciting putting it to use.
