Making my own outfit from the Ankara fabric we bought for our late grandma burial service.
Hello everyone
Greetings to you all in this great community on this beautiful day, I hope you are all doing great and having a productive week, it is my pleasure to share with you today the making of my own outfit from the remaining fabric for the burial service we attended few weeks ago.
In my previous post, I shared the making of my mother in-law outfit which was nice from a 4yards Ankara fabric.
Since it's the fabric that was bought for the family to honor the occasion, other members of the family got theirs as well and as a seamstress, I made the one for my husband which was a top and trousers and it looks so nice on him that people began to ask who made for him even while I was seated and he proudly told them I did, I was happy with the encouragement and proud of myself as well.
After making all of those outfit, the remaining fabric was put together and used to creat this simple gown outfit for myself, it was 10yards Ankara fabric used to make these 3 set of outfit for the burial service of our late grandma. For the program, other set of people from the village also choose a particular fabric for the purpose of the same purpose, some wore other type of Ankara fabric while the immediate family of the late grandma wore lace fabric, it was a big celebration with people from far and near to honor the occasion.
Let me take you through the cutting and sewing process of this simple gown I made for myself.
From the remaining 2 yards fabric, I folded it in 4 to cut the front and back bodice together. The full length of the gown was also used for the full length of the gown. I marked out the shoulder, neck, armhole circumference while the bust, waist and hip measurement was divided by 4 plus additional 2"
It was placed on a black lining to cut out same shape for the front and back and it was used to turn it inside out for neat finishing.
For the sleeves, I cut out a basic sleeve of 6" with the round sleeves measurement plus 1" seem allowance, I used the lining to turn it inside out as well.
From the remaining pieces, I cut out a long piece of x3 of the round sleeves measurement and pleated it on the sleeves
On the sleeves, I used a matching color bias strip and sew it on the joining of the basic sleeve and pleat I made, then the front and back bodice were sewn together with 1" seam allowance with 0.5" ease allowance.
This is the final outcome of my simple and beautiful gown i made for myself from the remaining fabric I made for my mother in-law and my husband.
It was greatly admired by most people and were surprised on how I was able to make all these beautiful outfit for us all, I'm so happy with the how lovely all the outfit tuned out.
I hope you like the beautiful and simple outcome of my gown just as I love it.
